But one name is absent from the fray. One voice is speaking, not shouting.
While other candidates use the media and words to demean and publicly admonish the political opposition, (such as Drake's outrage against Bauer and his blasting of his primary opponents in the Democratic campaign) Haley's strongest negatives came in the form of a speech to College Republicans at Clemson recently.
She feels Gresham Barret is too "D.C.-minded" and Henry McMaster is great in the Attorney General's office but is not "looking out for small businesses." As for the disaster which has been the Andre Bauer campaign, all she had to say was "Lt. Governor Bauer . . . lets just leave it at that."
Haley is a refreshing change from the political horse racers who feel little compunction to call their opponents names and blast them with stinging words. A reason that Jenny Sanford, South Carolina's admired First Lady, had nothing but praise to say about Haley when she endorsed her last November. ""Nikki Haley wold be exactly the kind of refreshing, inspiring, energetic, determined governor South Carolina needs to effectively lead out state to a brighter future."
Nikki Haley, State Representative from the 87th District, has been consistent. Consistent with her positive message for the future of South Carolina. Consistent with her record of voting the way she believes. Consistent in her desire for a brighter, better South Carolina.
"I will proudly compare my record on government spending with any other candidate," Nikki states in a message on her website.
And that record is consistent. She has voted not only the way her conscience dictates, but she has never hidden her record or agenda. She is a conservative with values shared by most South Carolinians.
Nikki was born in Bramberg, SC. Her parents are Indian-American immigrants. She attended Clemson university, has two children. According to sources, when Haley was asked if her Indian-American background would come into play during her campaign for Governor, she replied, "What matters most in South Carolina - and I imagine elsewhere in the country - is not the personality of the candidates, but the message they carry . . . I am very proud of my background and the way I was raised."
And that message is clear. It is one of hope and determination for South Carolina. It is not simply filled with rhetoric, either. Her voting record proves she is for good government that serves South Carolina. She is for life, and economic prosperity. She is for education reform, tax reform and government reform. She wants to fix, not just simply change for change sake, the way government in South Carolina is run. And how it impacts the lives of individual residents.
Haley voted for the marriage tax cut, she voted to protect life, she voted against big government spending, she voted for regulations to keep payday lenders from exploiting those in need.
Honesty. Pride in her state, her family, her values. The willingness to fight for the people she represents. Haley believes we are taxed enough already, not just in our dollars and cents, but in our patience. Our patience in waiting for a responsive and responsible government. Our patience in waiting for things to get better. Our patience in waiting for the rhetoric to stop and the work to begin.
Among the choices South Carolina has for Governor, Democrat or Republican, Nikki Haley stands not only apart from the other candidates, she stands FOR the people of South Carolina. What more could any state hope for in its elected officials?

Post a CommentWe had our primary here in IL and sad to say...career politicians got in...not enough people voted.
They better look to be sure none of the would-be candidates are on yachts or airplanes flying to some vacation island with a trophy girlfriend...
it's nice to read about candidates and issues in other areas of our united states. I am a southern california resident and get stuck in that narrow focus...nice and informative...sounds like we might want to clone a few more like her....
