South Dakota's Small Discoveries

Unkown Hidden Hideaways in This Vast State

Elle Hunt
I am in love with small towns in America. For the past ten years, I have traveled through some of the best that America has to offer from the great state of Montana, to Utah. From New York to Texas. I have experienced every season through various points of call; I have met different kinds of people and their personalities through hospitable, conscientious of the environment, and just plain old mean and unhappy. Although the latter is very few and far between in my experience. Sioux Falls, South Dakota is no exception; although I have never been there I am determined to go before my time is up on this earth. Being a history person, I am very excited to experience this landmark of time. What else can you experience in this small town in South Dakota?

1) The art scene-From Old Towne dinner theatre showcasing a rich diversity in talent and a scrumptious menu to the Museum of Visual Materials housing an array of green material in SD's first LEED certified green building.

2)Great Bear Recreation Park-Experience the greatest sport to land in snow country. From snow skiing to winter tubing. From ice skating to enrolling in school! Great Bear has it all. With 14 downhill trails, a beginner's area custom built for folks who are starting out like me, Great Bear is nestled in the valleys of Eastern South Dakota and is just awaiting your presence.

3) Sertoma Butterfly House-- Open year round, the butterfly house offers classes to youth and adults. Classes range from bug species to yoga and meditation in the serenity of Sertoma Park in the southern part of Sioux Falls.

4) Thunder Roads Family Fun Park-- Your family will experience the time of their lives just in spending time together and having fun doing it. From go kart racing to mini Golf to human foosball to the batting cages. Your family can get away from all the stress of daily living and find their inner child in this entertaining and engaging atmosphere.

5) Wild Prairie Winery-Offering an abundance of wines, this family winery is currently offering Xmas wines for the holidays. With their fanciful and fun names for their wines, you are sure to be pleasantly content sipping these fruity wines from Rhubarb Strawberry to Dandelion wine made from real dandelions!

Concluding my work in the health care field, I have decieded to go back to school to pursue another career. Since taking online courses, I have become glued to the computer, and found my love of writing again.  View profile
