Camden Children's Garden. Located at 3 Riverside Drive, Camden NJ 08103. As its name suggests this garden is a wonderful place for children of all ages to explore and learn about nature. It's spread out over 4 acres and is adjacent to the New Jersey Adventure Aquarium. Exhibits are both indoors and out so don't let a rainy day keep you away. The butterfly and dinosaur gardens are big hits with my children but you will find your own favorites as there is truly something for everyone. The garden is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am-5pm. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for kids, and free for children 2 and under. Check out their website at www.camdenchildrensgarden.org for more details.
Lewis W Barton Arboretum. Located at One Medford Leas Way, Medford NJ 08055. This Arboretum and Garden is located at the Medford Leas Retirement Community but is open for the public to enjoy. It includes 33 courts each with a different landscape design. You are free to roam around the grounds on your own or if you wish for more structure to your visit residents serve as tour guides for visitors. Admission is free so this is a great way to take in the beauty of nature and still keep some green in your wallet. Visit their website at www.mlra.org for more information.
Leaming's Run Gardens. Located at 1845 Route 9, North Cape May Court House NJ 08210. This garden is the largest annual garden in the entire United States. Open 9:30am to 5pm May through October enjoy ever changing displays as you walk the expansive collection of winding paths. Benches are thoughtfully provided along the way so you can rest or take in a particularly beautiful setting at your own leisure. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 7-14, and free for kids 6 and under. For $20 they offer a yearly pass good for unlimited visits. Post a CommentThank you Vincent! I completely agree about Camden... the area can be dangerous in spots but in general the people are nice. And around the Waterfront area (where the Children's Garden, Aquarium, Battleship NJ, etc are located) it's actually very safe and very nice.
These gardens are in my old stomping grounds. While I mostly lived in Haddonfield, I did briefly live in Camden. Although it is considered a dangerous place to live, there are many, many nice people there. I miss the vegetables e.g. asparagus, corn, tomatoes, etc., now that I live in VA. Welcome aboard...
