South Shore Platform Bed: An Inexpensive Bedding Choice

If you have limited space for decorating your bedroom a platform bed can perfectly fit the bill. With their sleek lines they don't take up much room in a small space, and platform beds support mattresses without the need for a box spring. Platform mattresses can be extremely expensive but you can also find bargains like the South Shore Full Platform Bed available exclusively from Wal-Mart.com.

The South Shore Platform Bed is available in three finishes Maple, Cocoa and Espresso and in Queen and Full sizes for $129.86 and $109.86 respectively. You can have it shipped to your local Wal-Mart store for free. This bargain comes at a price-- it is a lot of work to put the bed together.

The South Shore Platform Bed comes completely disassembled in a large box. Screws and pegs are included. The instructions are three pages of line drawings with no written instructions, beyond recommending having a friend help you. It is possible to put the bed together alone but an additional set of hands would undoubtedly have proved helpful. The South Shore Platform Bed is made out of laminated particle board, but the pieces are heavy.

Once the pieces are identified and laid out in the proper order, the assembly actually goes pretty fast, but the platform planks are not clearly marked and can be turned around. While a drill is not recommended for putting the South Shore Platform Bed together, a power screwdriver made a big difference in assembly time. Total assembly time was just over an hour.

Once the bed is put together, it is extremely attractive. It sits ten inches from the floor, making it good for a child's room or for someone that wants a bed that doesn't take up much space in a small room. It is also very sturdy. In fact, it feels sturdier than most traditional rail beds. It doesn't shift, move or creak once the mattress is placed on the platform. Included molding attaches to the edges of the platform bed to keep the mattress from shifting.

The South Shore Platform Bed comes with a five year warranty, so while it is definitely not a heirloom quality piece of furniture, it is great for a studio apartment, a dorm room of a guest bedroom. At just over $100, the South Shore Platform Bed is a great bargain especially if you take advantage of the Site to Store shipping feature.
