There are two phases of SouthBeachDiet.com recipes. The 7 day free trial begins with Phase 1 and is packed with veggies and proteins. It even allows fats-the good kind. Fruits are a no-no during phase 1, which lasts two weeks. However, it is true what they say about not being hungry. There is a sufficient amount of food in the meals teamed with the snacks to keep you satisfied. You really don't miss the carbohydrates with the food you are allowed. Do, however, be careful to read the serving sizes listed for each recipe. Most of the recipes are for TWO servings. If you are cooking for one, remember to divide the recipe in half.
One of the nice things about the South Beach Diet is the fact that you prepare your food fresh and with your own hands. Many of the other diet plans advertised require you to purchase their food. With all the news about food recalls and contaminations, this author prefers home made. The South Beach Diet recipes do not require highly specialized food purchases or complicated cooking. In fact, you can probably get started with what you have on hand. Eggs, spinach, smoked salmon, Canadian bacon, onions, sweet peppers, mushrooms, garlic, if you have a combination of these you could start first thing in the morning. The breakfast Frittatas are excellent and filling. It is an elegant omelet that gives you a sunny start to your day. You can create your own Frittata recipe, or meal recipes, by following the food guidelines provided on the website. Since morning can be busy during the week, keep some chopped veggies ready to go in the fridge to speed meal preparation.
Exercise is recommended along with the South Beach Diet. Walking every day has benefits beyond weight loss, so do it diet or not. The website will also provide specialized exercise information, according to the website content. However, this author was not able to access that information. It may be under construction or may be limited to those who continue after the 7 day trial. Or maybe it just wasn't easy to find.
Getting started is easy. Go to SouthBeachDiet.com and look around. Be sure to read the terms and conditions, so you know the policies. They aren't complicated, but you should know how to cancel, if you decide the South Beach Diet is not for you. The registration process is easy and only takes a few minutes. SouthBeachDiet.com does require you to provide credit card information and they will start billing that credit card for the monthly service, once the 7 day free trial has ended, unless you cancel. After you are registered, you can start building your meals for the 7 day trial.
The website design makes building menus easy and gives you a variety of choices. Start by clicking on the day of the week. Days are listed across the page below the page header. A preselected menu will appear for that day. There are 3 meals and 2 snacks approved for each day. Each preselected meal or snack can be changed by clicking on the change menu button. You will then be transported to a page where each meal is listed and a drop down menu of approved alternate meals can be used to change the selection. If the change was successful, you will see a notice that it has been changed. From this page, you have links to the other days of menus and you can change them, without going back.
You can print specific recipes, daily menus and daily menus with recipes. You can also locate recipes containing your favorite ingredients using the search tool. The only negative this author might offer is the excessively long hold time to reach Customer Service. I tried three separate times to reach the Customer Service number listed at SouthBeachDiet.com, on a Monday. My total hold time for the three calls was 40 minutes. When I did reach them, they said the call volume is always high on Monday. So, I guess the key is not to call on Monday. This would mean that if you intend to cancel, after the 7 day free trial, you should allow for time to reach Customer Service. Calling is the only way shown on the website to cancel.
All in all the process is easy, the website is user friendly and the recipes all encourage eating your vegetables-which is what your mom always told you. Give SouthBeachDiet.com a whirl and see what you think.
