3 Green Tomatoes
1/2 c oil
1/2 c flour
1/2 c corn meal
1/4 c corn starch
2 T Salt
1 T Pepper
Directions for Southern Fried Green Tomatoes

Start with about 3 medium sized tomatoes that are completely green, and I mean completely green. DO NOT TRY to fry a red or partially ripe tomato. You will end up with mush (or sauce).For the coating - Mix up and shake in a bag or covered bowl - 1/2 c flour - 1/2 c corn meal - 1/4 c corn starch - 1 T Pepper - 2 T Salt (yes tablespoons). Slice each tomato in half. Then slice each half in 3/4 inch slices. Dip each slice into milk, then into flour mix making sure each section of tomato is coated well, Place into hot oil and cook until edges on bottom start to turn golden brown, Flip and repeat. Drain. Serve on plate with ranch dressing. Make sure you get some before everyone else gets there because they'll be gone before you know it!Tip

Not everyone has ever eaten one but Fried Green Tomatoes are some of the best things that can come out of your garden.We all know about how much better a red ripe tomato from the garden is than one of the pale, mealy kind you are forced to buy in the grocery store.This year, I hope to have a bumper crop of tomatoes. I am especially hopefully for the yellow pears and anxious to try the Cherokee Purple, Yellow Boy and Yellow cherry tomatoes, but right now I am sitting staring out my window at a huge number of regular red tomatoes that just aren't ripe yet. So I thought I would share my recipe for "Fried Green Tomatoes" the kind that make Southern mouths water and restaurants famous.
