Southern Serpent

The Mississippi

Lucky M Diaz
A resplendent serpent undulates through the North and sleeps in the South,
separating the Old land from the New.
She hypnotizes all eyes that caress her form and
lures Poets(with the emanating fragrances of Spring)
to hurl their hearts and words at her steep bluffs.
Tourists are enveloped by her surrounding cities,
Wanderers seek her companionship,
and the exhausted many who have searched the States for peace
finally find themselves nestled against her side. . .
only to find that to trust this Southern Serpent
is to offer up their lives to become victimized
by the venomous fangs of her flood.

The Old Man. It does what it wants, moves when it wants. Takes what it wants. Gives what it wants.

I really like this poem. You write of both it's "body" and it's "spirit".
