Southern Summer

Celeste St. John
Hot summer day in the south
Swelter air hits my countenance
Breezy cool is the minimal relief
I knew once a day up north
Welcome rain is a gift
The clouds roll by with promise

And they shall ring true with promise
The winds that come from the south
Will bring the anticipated gift
To wash our every countenance
As we look up toward the north
And sigh a sigh of relief

And so it shall come the relief
The long awaited promise
Spilling down from the north
I look down to the south
No one can see my countenance
For they are consumed with the gift

Indeed it is gift
That delivers dripping relief
And finds contentment on every countenance
By the fulfillment of the promise
That heat from the south
Will find cooling from the north

Oh jolly day that was in the north
The day I received the gift
It was echoed in the south
When the clouds poured out relief
The earth took in the promise
And wet was its countenance

And so each our countenance
Is facing again the north
For we received the promise
And we enjoyed the gift
That brought us sweet relief
One day in the hot south

Promising winds from the north
Brought a gift to the south
Our countenance was full of relief
