In remote areas of Colorado like the Southwest area encompassing Cortez, Dolores, Mancos, and Durango, finding assistance and treatment for drug and alcohol abuse can be a difficult task. If the costs imagined in obtaining treatment weren't enough, most people get frustrated and give up when they can't find the facilities they need easily.

There are actually several rehabilitation services in Southwest Colorado, each of them with special programs to serve the community more fully. Most of these facilities also have payment plans, so the cost involved should never be a hurdle to regaining your health.

Durango Counseling Services, LLC. - 137 County Road 250, DurangoCO, (970)247-8990

Durango Counseling Services works on a sliding fee scale, which means that your fees will be based on your income and other factors. They specialize in a mix of mental health and substance abuse services in an outpatient environment, which means that a person doesn't have to live in their facility for treatment. Outpatient drug rehabilitation centers are more long-term, and patients are able to attend programs (including classes, visits with specialists, and group meetings) for as long as needed.

This facility offers Spanish services and also offers special programs for DUI/DWI offenders. Their mixture of mental health and substance abuse services has been acclaimed for its effectiveness; there are statistics which show that 53 percent of substance abusers also have at least one mental illness, which are often masked by drug and alcohol use. Through the services rehabilitation offers, people are able to make a truly fresh start both mentally and physically.

Pathfinder Clinic Inc - 701 Camino del Rio, Durango CO, (970)259-6588

Focusing on substance abuse treatment with special programs for adolescents, DUI/DWI offenders, and criminal justice clients, this facility works on an outpatient basis.

Their substance abuse treatments are often individualized to each patient, but will always include the same initial steps, starting with recognizing their problem. The facility offers classes and specialists who work both one-on-one with patients as well as direct group meetings. Working with criminal justice clients, the Pathfinder Clinic helps patients work through their substance abuse treatment program and work to follow specific steps and guidelines that determine how much and what type of treatment is needed for these patients.

Southern Ute Alcohol Recovery Center - 296 Mouache Road, IgnacioCO, (970)563-4555

Serving as both a halfway house and a substance abuse treatment center, the Southern Ute Alcohol Recovery Center helps pregnant/postpartum women, women, men, DUI/DWI offenders, and criminal justice clients overcome substance abuse.

Unlike the previous two centers, this facility provides both residential long-term treatment lasting more than 30 days as well as outpatient services. They offer a sliding fee scale that bases your costs on income and other factors.

In its halfway house capacity, this center offers people in rehabilitation more freedom than they would have in a correctional facility, but patients are still monitored closely. Throughout Colorado, halfway houses provide assistance to people recovering from alcohol and drug abuse, overcoming mental health problems, and those just coming out of a correctional facility - but this is one of very few halfway houses located in Southwest Colorado.

Their focus on pregnant/postpartum women, and women in general is also unique to the Southwest area of Colorado. Substance abuse among women is usually different than in men, and most often has a variety of contributing factors including poverty, mental health, a history of abuse and trauma, and involvement in abusive relationships. These factors usually bring the need for women to become involved in the long-term care offered by the facility, which allows them to receive help addressing all their needs.
