Sowing Seeds in Faith

Day 6 - a Year with God

Marilyn Quinn
"Sowing Seeds" is a term I have been hearing more and more frequently as I continue to take in more about biblical principles and practices. Usually, it is accompanied by some analogy to farming or gardening. I myself really "get it" more when it is put into a real life scenario that paints the picture of what it means.

Sowing seeds to me means doing good, helping others and in return your good seeds will bear fruit and bless you. Sometimes in unexpected ways.

You have to sow seeds of kindness, mercy and goodness if you expect to receive the same as a crop. Farmers don't plant corn and expect peas to grow. Neither can we throw out seeds of unkindness and cruelty and expect to be blessed.

I think the most difficult thing to learn to accept about sowing seeds, is that you have to do so in faith. And you have to continue to do so, even when you aren't reaping a harvest yet.

Farmers don't give up on farming because every seed they throw out doesn't grow and flourish. And neither do they quit just because the crop is poor on year. Because if you sow nothing, you will surely reap nothing. If you continue to sow and nurture your crop, you will see benefit from it. It may not come tomorrow, or from the same place you planted, but it will come if you have faith.

Often, I think about those people who are score-takers. Maybe they buy you lunch, but they don't forget just how much you owe them. Maybe the next time you eat out, they remind you of it. They don't let you forget it until you have paid them back exactly.

I prefer to let things come to a balance naturally. If I buy something for a friend who is short on funds, I know in my heart that at some point in time they will do the same for me without us having to keep track of who owes who what.

Maybe they won't pay me back, but somewhere down the road I will receive a blessing from somewhere in return. Probably it will come when I need it most from a source I would have never considered.

Today I would love for anyone who has been touched by this message to sow into someone just for the pleasure of doing something good, without expectation of a return and see what happens to your mood and your demeanor. You will begin to attract blessings like a magnet when you begin to sow in faith.

"The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." 2 Corinthians 9:6

"You must give to get, you must sow the seed, before you can reap the harvest." unattributed
