Spa Christmas Gifts: Save Money, Enhance Quality

Alex Stevens
Spa Christmas gifts tend to encourage those receiving them to pamper themselves and feel good as they take time for themselves. Spa Christmas gifts also promote a sense of pleasure or relaxation and often contribute to good health and appearance as well. However, while these gifts serve as special or luxurious treats for family and friends, they need not be expensive to be appreciated and enjoyed. Over the past few years, I have given many spa Christmas gifts that have made lasting impressions, and I have been able to do this without spending a great deal of money. The following are three practical tips that have helped guide me, including examples of spa and related gifts and places to shop for them that I have found helpful:

#1: Commit to a cost-cutting attitude. The best gifts are not always the most expensive, and high cost is not a guarantee of quality. At the same time, why pay full retail price for an item if you can get the same item for less, and you can obtain it from a reputable source as well? Become aware of ways to save money on each and every spa Christmas gift item you plan to purchase, including brand name and designer products. Another good way to save is to avoid using your credit cards unless absolutely necessary. This kind of cost-cutting commitment will make you more much aware of opportunities for savings and allow you to spend significantly less than you would have otherwise.

#2: Research and plan for success. Take the time to ask yourself and think through a number of questions. For example, what individual or individuals might appreciate and enjoy spa Christmas gifts? How much can you afford to spend or budget on these gifts? Also, do you want to buy the gifts or take time to make any, or all of them, yourself? What products and supplies do you want and where can you get them at savings? The answers to these questions will obviously take some researching but will be a very wise investment of your time.

Additionally, you will want to look for spa Christmas gift ideas in numerous places, including on the internet. You will also want to refer to local newspapers and fliers as well as check out policies and any restrictions on returns and exhanges.

#3:Work your plan. Obviously, the best plan in the world isn't going to work if it doesn't get put into action. But ultimately, planning and following your own plan goes a long way toward cutting down or preventing impulse buying, a top reason people overspend.

I have given sale-priced and promotional spa Christmas gifts, such as jars of facial treatments and bath products, to family and friends who have appreciated and enjoyed these presents very much. These have included Dead Sea mud and unscented Dead Sea salt, two great products available online at www.cleopatraschoice.com that I plan to purchase this year as well. Dead Sea mud has many wonderful health properties. Additionally, when it dries, it flushes out toxins that may be present deep within skin cells, firms and tightens the skin, and provides essential minerals, contributing to a more vibrant, glowing, and youthful complexion. The genuine Dead Sea bath salts contain over 26 minerals essential to skin health and proper moisture balance and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Another good website where you can find bargains on quality products is www.amazon.com. This site features a wide variety of interesting items and has a solid reputation for quality and customer satisfaction as well. One item, for example, that a close friend received last year and absolutely raved about was a Simmons Beautyrest Sleep Massager. This special sleep massager, currently on sale on the website, offers adjustable speed and intensity control and automatically shuts off after 20 minutes so you can relax comfortably and drift off into a good night's sleep while using it.

Amazon also offers a number of other sales such as designer and brand name fragrances, herbal teas, holistic books, and relaxation tapes. Currently, for example, Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea Eau De Parfum Spray 3.3 ounces, is about 53% off regular retail price.

Of course, you can find bargains at your local stores, too. Sometimes it is just a matter of convenience ordering over the internet. However, there are also shipping costs to consider when you purchase online. In some cases or in all of them, you may be able to take advantage of free or reduced shipping promotions.

However, if you decide to try any local stores, plan to take full advantage of sales, special coupons, and unadvertised specials. Additionally, consider your other options that include discount stores and outlets, wholesale clubs, and stores going out of business.

If you are making your own gifts totally, or in part, there are numerous options to consider that can save you money. I have a friend, for example, who makes handmade soaps and spa candles from supplies and craft kits, places them in beautiful little silk bags and unique personalized boxes and other attractive but inexpensive or unique containers, and gives them to coworkers and neighbors. She purchases her supplies at local craft stores when they are on sale and never buys them at regular price. She also makes up beautiful gift baskets with simple items she purchases from places such as the local Dollar Store, Christmas Tree shop, and Wal-Mart. Combining items such as moisturizing body lotions, hand creams and lip balms, calming herbal teas, natural sponges, soothing face masks, relaxation CDs and other items she buys or creates herself, she customizes each gift basket to suit the interests of the family members and friends she gives them to and tops off her creations with lovely personalized cards, attractive bows, and other unique decorations.

It is a good idea to keep in mind that products increase in value and quality in a number of different ways, one of which is through appealing, unique, or exciting visual presentations. Even a simple and relatively inexpensive item can appear to be more costly or valuable, exclusive, exquisite, or luxurious, if placed in an artfully decorated or colorful box, attractive jar, beautiful gift basket or other appealing and interesting container.

Spa Christmas gifts can be great fun to shop for and give, but you can save money without sacrificing quality or recipient enjoyment. Maintain a cost-cutting attitude, do some research, and come up with a plan that you can follow this holiday season. This year, make your Christmas a very happy, healthy but less expensive one.

Higher cost does not ensure higher quality.

Products with appealing visual presentation tend to be be perceived as more interesting and valuable.
