Spa Day Birthday Party Tips for Pre-Teens

Tween Spa Party Ideas

Kelly Spies
Pre-teens reach an age where birthday parties are either a massive success or a miserable failure. Gone are the days of princess parties and playing dress up. They are growing up and want their birthday parties to reflect that. One way to honor your little girl's coming of age is to throw her a spa day birthday party and here are some ideas on how to make that spa day the best day ever.

Invitations

Spa day birthday invitations should reflect that there will be a spa day. One way to keep with the spa day birthday theme is to create a name for your spa and put that on the invitations. You can go with something simple like "The Ooh La La Spa" or even something that includes your child's name.

Things to keep in mind for spa day birthday party invitations is cards depicting massages and facial treatments. An easy way to dress up spa day birthday invitations is by gluing gems, ribbons and glitter to them.

When you create your spa day birthday party invitations be sure to let your guests know to bring a robe and slippers unless you plan on providing them.

If you are having a hard time finding good spa day invitations consider using an online invitation service such as Evite or My Punchbowl, both of which allow you to manage your guest list online.

Decorations

When it comes to decorating for a spa day birthday party think pastels, candles, fragrances, curtains and soothing background music.

Drape lamps with light, airy, pastel colored fabrics and accent with beads or strings of pearls. Toss an assortment of large throw pillows all over the room, add a small tabletop water fountain filled with Kool-Aid or punch and fill the room with lighted fragrant candles, vases of flowers and incense.

Supplies

Things you will need to pull off a good spa day birthday party are towels, fuzzy slippers, facial creams, moisturizers, a few small tables, several small plastic foot washing tubs, nail polish, nail polish remover, cotton balls, nail files, loofahs, eye masks and wash clothes.

Along with the basic supplies needed to set up spa stations, you will need spa day favors. Most spa day party favors can be found at dollar stores. Be sure to include lip gloss, bath salts, body sprays, body lotions, mini pedicure sets and loofahs.

Food

Since the spa experience tends to be a more natural one consider going that route with food. Instead of potato chips, candy and cookies think about veggie trays, whole grain mini muffins, chocolate dipped fruit and smoothies.

Create a small tray of food to place at each spa station so that the guests don't have to leave their treatment to get refreshments.

Participants

A spa party is not a one woman show. You will need someone to man each spa station. If you have teenagers and can wrangle them into helping the better, if not enlist the mother's of the girls attending the party. The goal is to have someone to do manicures, someone else to do pedicures, facials and nails etc.

General Spa Day Birthday Party Tips

On to the good stuff. When you go about setting up your spa strategically place small tables around the room. Spread them around the parameters of the room so that the center of the room is available for lounging and typical teen play. This is the best place to throw around a bunch of throw pillows.

When it comes to the treatments themselves you don't have to go expensive. There are recipes galore online for making your own moisturizers, scrubs and lotions. Tea bags, cucumbers, Epsom salts and olive oil can go a long way. Don't forget the oatmeal.

Instead of giving one treat bag to every guest, have mini treat bags at each station. Fill the mini treat bags with sample size products that relate to each individual station. This way your guests go home with lots of fun stuff to keep the spa going at their own home.

Last but not least, don't forget to take plenty of pictures. And don't forget to give each guest a disposable camera so that they can take pictures of their own.

  • When you go about decorating for your spa day consider the five senses.
  • In addition to lighting candles, use lower wattage lightbulbs or dimmers.
  • Providing veggies and fruits rather than candy and sweets helps keep the energy level down...some.
A professional spa day can cost around $150 for one person.

I love the ideas posted here. These are a few other things we did at my daughter's spa party.

Instead of making favors the girls made them throughout the party. We had a station for making their own lip gloss.
Another station where the guests mixed their own specialty lotion. I went to the dollar store and bought different scents of lotion. The girls mixed different combinations of the scents they liked in a bowl and then filled a small container (we found at Wal-Mart in the travel section) and added a label with the child's name.
The final station was Bath Salt sand art. Once again I went to the dollar store and purchased different colors and scents of bath salts. The girls layered the different bath salts in a small jelly jar, and added a label to the top of the jar.
The activities were a hit and kept the girl busy!

What an absolutely great idea - my 11 year old granddaughter is quickly reaching the age where b-day parties are for little kids.
