Spa Quality Hair Treatments at Home

Do you love to pamper yourself with salon style treatments but want to do it yourself? It's easy to create salon style deep hair conditioning treatments and hair masks at home. I promise your stylist won't mind and she or he may very well want the scoop on your new secret!

Many top salon's and spa's know the secret to great beauty treatments lie in the kitchen.

The very best at home hair treatment is using olive oil or jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is actually preferable but it is more costly than olive oil. Both oils contain natural emollients and oils that help condition the hair deep within the cuticle. They also coat the hair leaving it feeling glossy and looking shiny. Adding heat to the mix will increase the conditioning qualities of the oils by opening up the hair cuticle so the oils are even deeper absorbed.

Essential oils are very beneficial when creating at home hair treatments. You can purchase these at your local health food store or online. Be sure to do a little research and get quality oils. Never apply essential oils directly to the scalp as this can cause burns. Always dilute them.

The first thing you want to start with before a hair treatment is clean damp hair. You can also strip the hair with an apple cider rinse so that you will achieve optimum results from your deep conditioning hair treatments.

Apple Cider Hair Rinse

This hair rinse will strip the hair of build up from oils, conditioner's, styling products. The apple cider rinse isn't necessary before a deep conditioning hair treatment but if you use a lot of styling products or non salon brand products it is a good idea.

1 cup apple cider vinegar

2 cups warm water

8 drops rosemary essential oil

Combine everything in a squirt bottle and apple to damp previously shampooed hair generously. Let sit for 5 minutes then rinse.

Deep Conditioning Oil Treatment

The best way to give yourself an oil treatment at home is to gather your supplies before hand. You will need towels, about 1-2 cups of oil (olive or jojoba or use a mixture of equal parts of both) a plastic shower cap and access to a, stove and microwave/dryer. The first thing you want to do is place your oil in a coffee cup. Boil some water on the stove top and place in a ceramic bowl and remove from heat. Put your cup of oil in the boiling water, be sure that there isn't too much water in the bowl that it will flow into the cup of oil. Let this sit for about 5 minutes until the oil is nice and warm. Next you will want to apply it generously to pre shampooed hair. Place the shower cap over your hair and then heat a damp towel in the dryer or microwave and wrap the warmed towel around your head over the shower cap. Let sit for 20 minutes then rinse well and follow up with a light shampoo. You can get creative and add essential oils to the olive or jojoba oil. Add up to 12 drops of rosemary, lavender, sandalwood or even peppermint depending on your needs. The first 3 our rich in moisturizing and regenerative properties. Mint and rosemary will also help treat and scalp problems like dandruff and psoriasis.

Luxurious Avocado and Honey Hair Mask

This hair mask is a real treat for your hair. Variations of this recipe can be found in treatments in many upscale spas. This mask will help nourish damaged, dry and chemically treated hair from the inside out. The essential oils increase the therapeutic effect on your hair with this simple mask.

What you will need;

2 ripe avocado's mashed

4 tbsp. honey

15 drops rosemary essential oil

3 drops sweet orange essential oil

Mash everything in a bowl until thoroughly mixed. Apply to pre washed damp hair. Cover with a shower cap and a warm towel as per the olive oil treatment and let sit for half an hour. You can shampoo your hair afterwards if you like but it's not needed.

These simple treatments can give you salon quality results for a fraction of the price or a lengthy salon visit.
