Space Bags Vacuum Storage Bags: A Viable Storage Solution or Colossal Waste of Money?

Do Space Bags Really Work as Promised?

Carly Hart
You've seen them advertised on TV and may have wondered if Space Bags really do work. I, too, wondered if Space Bags would be the product to help me finally get my linen closet organized and allow me to shrink down fluffy blankets and comforters while affording ample room for towels and toiletries. Sadly, I was disappointed in Space Bags and I've outlined some of the shortcomings I experienced while using the product.

Bag can tear while sealing: One Space Bag that I used actually tore right across the top where the sealing strip is located. While pulling the plastic clip across, the bag literally split just below, rendering the bag useless. I did not overfill the bag.

Clip is difficult to maneuver: Sliding the clip is difficult. The clip tends to stick and I have even had them come completely off. Getting the vacuum storage bag to seal at the top is a key component to not losing any air and maintaining the vacuum seal. If you lose the clip, it is very difficult to seal the bag without it.

Doesn't hold the seal over time
: I used a Space Bag to store my daughter's bed linens, comprising mainly of blankets. While they did vacuum to store flat, over time, the bag re-inflated somewhat, making me leery of storing them in the bag long-term. In addition, I had one bag that wouldn't hold a vacuum at all. I found it re-expanded in my closet, hogging back up the precious space that I thought I'd saved.

Vacuum portal may not fit your vacuum cleaner: One of the difficulties that I had while using this product was getting a tight seal with my vacuum cleaner's hose. My hose was molded to accept a hose extension, so it had piece cut out of the side that allowed air to escape. In order to get the bag to decompress, I had to put my finger tightly over this spot to achieve a vacuum seal.

Overall: Save your money. Space Bags can be bought at retailers such as Wal-mart, but they aren't worth the money that you spend. Out of the package that I bought to try, I had difficulties with every bag. I couldn't get them to keep a bag sealed and

Don't feel bad, I bought ginzu knives twice and they never came! But I had paid for them.
