What is Space?
Space is the extra room you have in your home to do things with one another, make memories, enjoy company and allow children to play. Space is what people pay big money for in houses. When we purchase a home, do we imagine it filling up with stuff or do we imagine having lots of extra room for our children to grow and to invite company over? I imagine the truth is in the latter. We would rather be with one another and enjoy one another's company than have big objects taking up space in the corner or the room.
How do we Make More Space in Our Life and Our Home?
The simple answer to this question is to get rid of stuff. Yet, the truth is often our hearts are attached to the objects for one reason or another. The truth is that more space can be enjoyed if we simply part with lots of little or a few big items. It will create more space and we wont have to buy a bigger house and increase our mortgage. The truth is that as Americans we have lots of little items as numerous as the grains of sand (or sometimes it seems) and we could easily live with much less. Instead of buying more land or buying more house, perhaps we can simply get rid of things that clutter our life and our house. In order to do this, we must part with the items that take up space in our home.
Emotionally Letting Go of Stuff
In order to emotionally let go of stuff, we must consider the price the objects are costing us. The price many of the items cost in our home is not just a financial price. Other costs are involved in keeping items as well including the amount of time we spend taking care of an item, the time needed to maintain our home (rather than spending time with our family), keeping an object we don't use is something that we may be taking away from someone else who will enjoy it (An example are the smoke machines my husband sold last week. For a small price, another person will use the smoke machines where they would have sat in our storage shed.), keeping stuff can hurt our health because stuff collects dust or it may mold and mildew, and most importantly stuff takes up space. Space is why we move out of our homes and buy bigger houses. Space is what we need for our children to flourish, grow and learn. High prices are placed on space in the housing market. Therefore there is a financial price that can be paid for space. If you need more space, the simple answer is to let things go. Therefore, is the object you are keeping worth more either financially or in the service it is currently providing your family, or would the space gained by its removal be worth more. This is the important question to consider.
Gaining More Space Means More Freedom
Letting go of stuff, increases space in your home. This space will allow you more freedom. You will now be able to invite more guests into your home and enjoy a clutter free life. Who can place a price on renewing your home? You will also have more time to spend with your family. Consider doing a cost/benefit analysis of the items laying around your home.
