CHERI AMIOTTE
Spain, Portugal and Andorra are the THREE SOVERIEGN NATIONS THAT MAKE UP THE Iberian Peninsula in southern Europe. Spain is the largest of the three. The name Spain comes from Hispania, a Latin name. the name is translated as island of the rock hyrax (furry four-legged animal). Spain is consumed with highlands and mountain ranges. Several major rivers run from the highlands and mountains.

Differences in geography, culture and climate is what has created the Spanish cuisine we know and love today. Seafood available from the waters surrounding Spain has an extremely heavy influence in the country's cuisine. Spain's cuisine consists of thousands of recipes and tastes.

Though there is a vast amount of cultural influence on the cuisine all share some common characteristics. how olive oil is used for fat when cooking, or the use of sofrito in dishes, how garlic and onions are used as major seasonings, serving bread as well as wine with meals. The cuisine might be different throughout Spain, but you can definitely see how they have incorporated with each other throughout history to turn into the cuisine of Spain today.

Among the vast amount of recipes there are a few that can commonly be found all throughout Spain. Some example would be paella or gazpacho. The ingredients of both are determined by the region of Spain in which it is being made.

Today Spanish cuisine is extremely popular all around the world. It's no wonder that Spain's cuisine is such a hit. With The vast, mouth watering tastes, and the bright, eye candy coloring of the Spanish cuisine makes it nearly impossible for even the pickiest of eaters to resist.
