Spain's Contador Wins Tour De France

In a year where the Tour de France was marred with drug suspensions, Alberto Contador of Spain emerged from the pack the winner.

Contador, 24, is the youngest rider to win the Tour since Jan Ulrich won in 1997. He is also the first Spaniard to win since Miguel Indurain's win in 1995.

Contador was a very unlikely winner. It seemed that he would have to settle for second place through much of the race, but a drug scandal rocked the tour very late and propelled him into first place.

The race leader Michael Rasmussen was ousted from the Tour after testing positive for banned substances. This opened the door for Contador to have the lead, and he never relinquished it.

Contador had a challenge on the Stage 19 time trial when American Levi Leipheimer won the stage and cut into the Spaniards lead. Contadors lead was only 23 seconds after Stage 19, and that was his eventual ending margin of victory.

His 23 second margin of victory was the second smallest in the 104-year history of the Tour.

Contador's story is one of triumph. Much like Lance Armstrong, Contador come back from career-threatening health problems to win the Tour.

Contador suffered a massive blood clot in his brain in 2004. The blood clot required surgery and it was not known if he could ever get out of bed again, let alone race in the Tour de France.

Contador says that he drew his inspiration to come back from his brain surgery by reading a book about US cyclist Lance Armstrong. He can now join Lance Armstrong as champion of the Tour de France.

Arena Bowl XXI

Arena Bowl XXI is set to be played on Sunday in New Orleans. The game will pit the Columbus Destroyers, the sixth-seed out of the National Conference, versus the San Jose Sabercats, the first-seed out of the American Conference.

The Columbus Destroyers are the second-straight sixth seed to make the Arena Bowl after the Chicago Rush did the same last season. Columbus's Cinderella season had them barely making the playoffs and then beating number one seed Dallas and Number two seed Georgia on the road to make the Arena Bowl.

San Jose had a relatively easier path to the game. The Sabrecats were the best in the American Conference and played all home games in the playoffs, beating defending champion Chicago Rush handily to make the championship.

Arena Bowl XXI can be seen at 3:00 on ABC on Sunday.
