Spam Protection: Tips to Protect Your E-mail and Valuable Information

L
Bulk e-mail, junk e-mail, and spam e-mail are common terms that just about everyone with an e-mail address has heard of . Although most of these annoying e-mails are not welcome into our in box, they seem to just show up unannounced into even the most carefully protected accounts. People often wonder how their addresses were put on the "spam list"and how they can effectively get rid of them. There is a cure, but it does take work, and the work is well worth it to many who dread opening their in box to find that they have won an unheard of lottery or that they've been chosen to choose five free airplanes for free.

Spammers have a tricky way of finding their prey in a number of ways. If you have ever joined a public forum or any on line group, then beware. If you used your personal e-mail address in these public on line places, spammers can and will put you on their list. Using a "spambot" is also a common way to retrieve e-mail addresses. These pesky little bots will basically creep and crawl all over the web gathering e-mail addresses from chat rooms, web sites, and even employment databases. Simply filling out information for free spam protection may also end up costing you dearly. Many spam companies set up their very own website to entice you into leaving your e-mail address in order to get off of spam lists. What is really happening is that you have just opened Pandora's Box to a plethora of spammers. The list of ways your e-mail is traced goes on and on, thus making the need for spam protection urgent.

Spam protection comes in many forms. As said before, it is extremely important to decipher what will truly be spam protection and not just a gimmick. The first thing to do is something that everyone can do without having to download or buy anything, and it is pretty simple. Do not ever use your personal e-mail address for public forums, blogs, newsgroups, game sites, chat rooms, and even book club or magazine sites. Simple enough right? Go get a free e-mail address at Yahoo, Hotmail, or any other site that offers an e-mail address at no charge, then make sure to use this address for all of your public postings. What happens if you have already used your personal address and you cannot afford to change your e-mail address? It is now time to put on your spam protection hat and fight fire with fire.

Since spam e-mail is becoming more and more widespread by the minute, the fight for spam protection is also growing. Sending the spammer's internet service provider and/or their web host a report of the spam sent is the first step in spam protection. The sender's ISP and domain host can usually be found in the headers of your e-mail address. You can report to free at sites such as SpamCop, but for a fee you have several other options, such as having your e-mails filtered out and managed for you. However, there are many e-mail filtering applications available at no charge. A quick Google should bring up many results. Please remember to check the authenticity of each and every site before you ever giving your e-mail address out. As stated earlier, this is a clever trick many sites will used in order to get you on their spam list. Check with valuable sites such as www.download.com, where the applications are scanned for spy ware and also have plenty of user reviews.

Spammers think that they are here to stay. Armed with a little knowledge and the will to fight back with spam protection, our e-mail address will once again be our private property and not a spammer's poaching ground.
