People who love to spread their spam all over the internet will go to great lengths in order to do so. They will friend you and you will unknowingly add them to your friends list without thinking about whether they might be someone who is potentially hazardous to your peace and enjoyment while you are on the social networks. FaceBook and other social media websites have added a lot of precautionary measures to try to keep the spammers out. It doesn't always work though. They can still seep through the lines and walls to clog your social networking lines up. Unfortunately, it is one of the prices that you pay for being on the internet.
There are certain measures that you can take to avoid getting spam in your email inbox as well as in your social networking site. Remember that if a spammer gets into your account, they can also easily start spreading it to those who are on your friends list. You aren't just protecting yourself from Spam junk in your social networking site, but all of those people who you have listed as friends.
How to prevent spam from your social networking site:
Privacy Settings- When you want to make sure that you are preventing yourself from getting too much junk spam in your social networking site, it is important that you first check your social networking privacy settings. Most sites have privacy settings that allow you to keep people from seeing you r personal information unless you are a friend with them. This first step will be the stepping stone of everything else you do to keep spammers from getting to your profile and clogging all of your feeds so that you can only see what they have to say. You should also keep in mind that spammers aren't always trying to sell something. Some are trying to pass viruses to you and your friends.
Friends List- Be careful who you add as friends on your FaceBook and other social networking sites like it. Only add people that you know if you want to be sure that you will be able to prevent spam messages in your social networking sites. That doesn't stop your friends from adding people they don't know and that could still mean trouble for you, but it does help keep the risk to a minimum.
Delete Friends- If you find that you suddenly start getting spam messages or wall posts from the friends you know in real life, warn them that there is a problem with a possible hack to their account. If you continue to get junk emails from them, delete and block them from your social networking sites so that you won't have the same problem in the future.
Your Inbox- Be careful what you open up in your inbox to your social networking site. That is how a lot of viruses are passed. If you don't know the sender or it looks suspicious, especially when there is a link attached, do not open the mail. Delete it from the inbox and block the person who sent it. It might be perfectly innocent, but it could also be potentially dangerous for your computer.
Report- If this is a persistent problem, it is wise to report the spammer to the website itself. They can take further action to stop this person from affecting thousands of people before they are stopped. Spam isn't always innocent advertising. It comes in many forms and can be very destructive. Send as much information as you can about the user and what was sent to you in the form of spam as you can to the site so that they can take the proper action and get rid of the spammer and the spam from the site completely.
Spam email is more than just an annoyance in your inbox. It can destroy your computer system at times. It pays to be as cautious as possible so that you don't end up with more problems than you were counting on just because you used a social networking site like FaceBook. Social networking is fun if you use it in the right way and take the right precautions.
