First of all, you have to be aware of that fact that you cannot just simply move from Europe to Spain and work there. There are a lot of people from different countries working there and the Spanish government had to set up some rules to take control of the situation. That is why to work legally in Spain, you need to get yourself a NIE number.
NIE number will sign you up in the Spanish tax system. However, here is a problem: to get this number you have to be tied up to Spain somehow, which means to by some property or a vehicle there. Yes, earlier you just needed to go to the police and get registered there and get you NIE number.
But nowadays they have complicated the situation for foreigners. You have to buy some property or a car, as we have already mentioned or to get a job. Once you are hired, your employer will arrange everything for you to get this NIE number. However, it is really hard to find a good full time job in Spain. A lot of Spanish people are moving to other European countries looking for a job because the situation of the job market is not that good.
Getting a full time job gives you a lot of rights. And of course, most employers do not want it. For example, you can take a month or two off because you have visited a doctor and need some rest and the employer is not allowed to hire another person to do your job.
That is why it is better to work for yourself in Spain. Then you will be your own employer and this can make a number of things easier. All you need to do is to choose what kind of business you want to run, set this up and get an accountant who will register you at the tax office and get you a NIE number.
This is very important to find a good accountant. This person should speak English for you to settle down your issues easier and besides, you have to trust him or her because you accountant is the one who will take care of your tax returns. Moreover, if you will be self-employed in Spain, you will have to deposit 235 Euros into your social security account monthly. Thus, you will be able to use the services of the national health system and be sure that you will get a pension when retired.
If you pay more into your social security account, later on you will get more benefits and higher pension.
