Spanking is Allowed in Public Schools

Hawaiihill
I remember teachers lining the students up and paddling us with a paddle with holes and taped up handles, sometimes holding more than one paddle together for thickness. If one child, in a class of thirty didn't listen, then we all got spanked. Rule by the sword technique. In todays age, even in the schools, the children are suppose to be learning with positive reinforcement. Teachers are suppose to wake up their minds and keep them interested in learning. They have to use more than one technique of learning. Why does the school automatically have permission? Maybe spankings aren't always wrong, but i think that is my decision. I don't believe strangers should be making the decisions of how to discipline my child.

We have lived in two districts since putting our child in school. In the child's agenda book it has rules and regulations written in the front of it. How many people actually read all of that? I'm one of the people that read all of that. When reading it, I learned that corporal punishment is a spanking. If you don't want your child spanked you need to: Write a letter to the principal, each and every school year. To the teacher (remember, there is usually more than one teacher). It was also written that your child has to be aware of it. I suppose that's in case they don't check their files first.

You have already given your child's school permission to spank your child. If don't ask questions, read the small print, then you don't know what you have to do to prevent it. The school doesn't give you all the In's and Outs when your child starts. You have to push and read to learn about all the rules. Sometimes you don't think the small print will ever pertain to you. Even though most schools probably don't routinely spank our children, it is written vaguely to the reasons of, why they can. If your child gets spanked. You can't be mad at the teachers or principals. The counties and states that we live in, give the schools permission to do so.

I never knew that. There was no corporal punishment in school when I was growing up, so I assumed that it didn't exist anymore. I will definitely look into this when my children start school (one will in the next year). Thanks for writing this

It's shocking to know that in this day and age this sort of thing still goes on and that it's even legal! Most assuredly the brightest minds of the day are not going to be teaching at schools such as these.
