Over 272,000.00 students in the 2004-2005 school year were physically punished at school in the USA. I read that is is only recorded once per child. If they receive physical punishment over one time it is not reported. Reported in May of 07' for the 04'-05' school year. The highest ranked state was Mississippi spanking over 40,000 students. Arkansas was ranked second at 36,947. In Alabama 36,130 students were hit. I have counted up to 22 states that still spank children. In 1976 over 1,000,000 children were spanked. The statistics have fallen quite a bit, but it has not stopped. Every industrialized country on this earth has stopped corporal punishment except for the USA., Canada and Australia.
I read this statement and posted the link for it: "In keeping with Governor McWherter's and President Bush's emphasis on local rather than state control the committee is not recommending a ban on corporal punishment." They are saying that they want to leave it up to the individual school districts.
I am just a concerned mother. After seeing that others were just as concerned as me, i thought this follow up article may further help others that want to learn more. I believe i have the correct statistics. Please refer to the available links for more information. The links also provide help and ways to try and stop it.

Post a CommentAfter about 5th grade you have to try out for sports. Before that I don't feel that 4 year olds to 11 yr olds should have to try out. I feel the schools hide the fact they spank in "small print" so to speak, and I don't care for deception. The school is not responsible for punishing my child. An extra writing assignment or detention, fine. otherwise I am the parent, I need to be informed. Whether I spank or use another kind of disipline is my decision. People aren't allowed to go up and hit my child. I guarantee no one would try that in front of me. We aren't allowed to hit adults that misbehave. So what are the school teaching our children when they do this? Do you realize how many educators hit children out of frustration. I think once you have children you will change your thinking. There aren't cool parents..Maybe absentiee parents but that is another issue. When i kick a child off the school bus for a few days they come back with a different attitude. They are dealt with at home b
Whatever happened to the notion of "You do the crime you do the time." Kids don't have consequences for their actions nowadays. Every kid makes the sports team because nobody should have to feel left out. Kids shouldn't have consequences at school. Whether or not spanking in the schools is the right way to handle it, kids definitely need consequences and too many parents nowadays let their kids getaway with many things because they want to be the cool parent or they don't want to be their their parents or whatever excuse they concoct. It's enabling the child, plain and simple.
Nice article though... i should have probably expanded on my rant and posted it for money.
