Some of the most fun you can actually have in a karate class is learning how to fight. The practice of learning how to fight is called sparring. Sparring is great because you can put to practice everything that you have learned while you have been in class. When it comes down to learning how to fight there are some things that beginners must know before they can actually put those gloves on and begin. In this article, I want to go over some tips that will help you when you are at the level to start sparring in your karate class. Let's begin.

Master Basic Kicks, Blocks and Punches

Sparring is all about using the techniques that you have learned in class. Before you spar, you need to make sure you have mastered the basic techniques. Those basic techniques are kicks, blocks and punches. The first technique you need to make sure you've mastered is blocking. Blocking is going to be your best defense when your opponent is throwing strikes and kicks at you. Some of the basic blocks that you need to master are the low block and the inside and outside block. These are great blocks that will help protect you from incoming attacks. You need to make sure that you have the basic kicks down. The basic kicks are the front kick, side kick and the roundhouse kick. These are the basic kicks that most beginning fighters start off with. You need to make sure you learn the correct punches. The basic punches that you need to know are the front punch, front jab and the reverse punch.

Learn the Rules

Before you start sparring, there are certain rules that you must learn. The first thing you need to learn is where you can hit your opponent and where you can't. There are two types of sparring. The two types are freestyle sparring and point sparring. We will only cover what the rules are for point sparring. The places where you can strike to gain points are the head, chest, and the stomach. If you strike someone on their back, grown or the leg, you will not receive any points. The other rule you must follow when it comes to point fighting is that you must stay within the ring perimeters. If you do not stay within the ring, your opponent will receive the points that you have lost. You want to make sure that all of your sparring gear is in great shape. You want to make sure that your sparring gear does not have any rips. If so, it needs to be replaced quickly.

Sparring is a lot of fun. Follow these tips and you will be on your way to becoming one of the best fighters ever.
