Speak English like an American

Would You like to Speak English like an American?

Dan Li
You have to admit that English is the most powerful language nowadays. That is why intelligent people all over world employ every means to learn it well. Each of us comes to school learning English hopeful, wanting in on the game. It is not up to us sometimes. Consider your original teacher's poor accent for example. What if he or she is not a native speaker? Will they mislead us to a certain extent? This is the reason that all any of us has to look for a new means of "livelihood".

Some people complain that they don't even have a good environment to learn or few native speakers are willing to talk to them. I would say that you must forget one important thing, the movies! I don't mean that we just pay attention to the story or something! Watching the fun doesn't really make so much sense! For instance, Prison Break may be an awesome drama while it couldn't be a good material for English study. Think about it ("Hey, man; Son of b***; Come on; etc"). Is it worth us to learn? As a result, we should really find some TV shows that deserve our attention like "The Simpsons", "Grey's anatomy", "House", "Desperate House wives", which are not only interesting but also profound. Plus of course, their accents are really cool, clear, double Cs! If you really speak English like that some day, even some American people may think that you have come to town anyway.

How can we make full use of the movies? This is the vital part. Well, the actors must rehearse their lines again and again, chewing on them so to speak, before they can hope to get inside the characters that they are playing! Then, just like them, I will memorize their lines thoroughly as well! Grey's anatomy season 1, for example, a great American drama, had already been reviewed by me for 10 times! On the other hand, I have watched "Forest Gump" for twenty times! It is far from enough though! So far, I have no problem to communicating with any native speaker. But I couldn't really speak English really like an American. But by doing the things that I have mentioned, I believe I will make it pretty soon! At long last, everyone will tell me that I speak English like an American!

Would you like to speak English like an American? Then, do it now!

You can waste your life, drawing lines, or, you can live your life crossing them. But here's what I know. If you're willing to take the chance...the view from the other side is spectacular.  View profile

I fuss at my kids all the time about the way they say things.. I try to tell them that it makes the sound less intelligent when they use slang and poor English skills...my oldest talks so fast it is hard to understand her, and I constantly have to make her slow down...

I remember asking a question in my 8th grade english class and the teacher made me feel like an idiot. I think it hindered me in my future grammar and english lessons.
