Spear's BBQ and Grille at Linville Falls, NC

Laura Ward
Before visiting nearby Linville Falls in western North Carolina, we decided to stop for a quick lunch at Spear's BBQ and Grille. We had a fairly large party and did not want to wait for a long time to eat. There were only two restaurants where we were at and Spear's was much less crowded, so we decided to stop in for a bite to eat. What a mistake!

The environment of the restaurant was welcoming. It was nice inside and felt very clean. The tables were large and two tables accomodated our entire party. The restroom was clean, but you had to wait a while to get in since there was only one stall.

Upon sitting down at the table, we were greeted by a polite server that took our drink orders. Our drinks came rather quickly, except for one expresso. The expresso never came. The machine was broken and they could not make it. We looked at the menu and made our decisions on what we wanted to order. The prices were ridiculous, but understandable since we were at a restaurant in the middle of the mountains near tourist attractions. Our orders were taken after waiting for approximately 15 minutes. By this time, everyone's drinks were empty and the server's had changed. We now had a new server. We were watiting on the bread and hushpuppies still also. The server brought out bread and hushpuppies and said she would be back to refill our drinks. Approximately 10 minutes later, she came back and filled all of the drinks up again. By this time, the food was ready and they began bringing it out. One of the entrees was forgotten and had to be cooked at that point, although it did not take long. One of the entrees was wrong and one did not include everything that was ordered. After all of the problems were taken care of, we finally began to eat our meal. The hamburgers were dry, the BBQ was oversmoked, the chicken sandwiches did not taste fresh and the chicken tenders were nowhere near restaurant quality. Again, our drinks were empty at this point. Our server had not come back to the table and we had to take the glasses to her to be refilled. After we took her the drinks, she came to the table and asked if we needed anything. All we wanted was to get out of the restaurant by this time. The food was not good and the service was poor. She gave us our checks, which one was wrong. We had been charged for food that was never ordered. The server was notified and took it off our bill.

Our visit the Spear's BBQ and Grille was not good. The food is way overpriced and they need to work on the service they give their overpaying customers. The best thing about this restaurant was looking around at the pictures they had on the wall. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will definitely not return.
