BEAVERCREEK, OH - As the healthcare debate continues in Washington, one local chiropractor made the effort to thank his patients while inviting others to learn more about his work. Dr. Greg Palkowski is the director of Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic. On Saturday May 1, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., the clinic held a patient appreciation day, offering refreshments, special rates for current patients and no cost assessments for new ones.

"Dr. Greg, as he is known to his patients and staff, has been in private practice since 1983. Most of his staff has been with him for many years, like office manager Cindy Watkins. Palkowski's daughter, Allyssa Palkowski Storer, signed on only two and a half years ago. "I help keep things moving and get the patients to the tables," Storer said who agreed that some new patients can be apprehensive about their first visit.

Jim Karns of Fairborn had been suffering from back pain since the age of 19 but has always been skeptical of chiropractic. He decided to take advantage of the free assessments offered during Saturday's special event. "My pain has gotten progressively worse over the years," he said. "Dr. Palkowski came highly recommended by a friend so I thought this would be a good way to see if chiropractic could help."

According to Palkowski, Karns' story is not unique. "There are four things that most patients want to know when they come in for the first time," he said. "They want to know what's wrong, can we help them, how long will it take, and how much it will cost."

In each assessment, Dr. Greg and his staff talk with the patient asking a series of detailed questions regarding the nature of their pain, its location, duration and severity. Patients are put at ease and given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the goals of the treatment on an individual basis.

Palkowski firmly believes that education is the key to staying healthy. "We try to give our patients as much information as possible that will benefit their overall health," he said and to do that most effectively, the doctor calls upon local experts.

In addition to chiropractic care, Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic also offers a wide range of wellness programs including natural weight loss by Joy to Life and nutrition education for all ages. Bryan Erdmann of Turning Point Wellness Educators was available at Saturday's event to discuss the nutritional needs of the patients.

"We are the wellness coordinators for Beavercreek Chiropractic," Erdmann said. "In partnership with Dr. Palkowski's staff, we provide patients with education about the connections between nutrition and disease."

As an added bonus, visitors to the clinic on Saturday were given the opportunity to speak with professionals offering services that contribute to comprehensive wellness. Representative Matt Borgert of SERVPRO of East Dayton Beavercreek spoke with visitors about how his company can help remove dirt, mold and mildew from carpet, basements and ductwork improving the quality of the indoor environment.

Of course, some household health risks could be prevented by better water management. Specialists from Beaver-vu Construction and Waterproofing, including owner Marty Walling, spent time talking to people about how to prevent wet basements and foundations which can lead to serious problems like black mold.

At the end of the day, 108 patients had passed through the clinic doors and Dr. Greg seemed pleased with the results. "The day was a great success and we look forward to offering another day like this sometime in the future."

Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic is located at 1654 Mardon Dr. off Dayton-Xenia, just east of US 35. For more information about upcoming educational programs or other events at the clinic, go online to www.beavercreekchiro.com or call (937) 426-9265.
