There are so many different things we can do with our fathers to make them feel really appreciated on Father's Day this year. Just doing things together and having fun while treating him like a king for a weekend is such a gift. There are lots of little special things we can do in and around Memphis to really treat our dads to a special time. Here are just some of them.

How about taking a special dad out to dine on what People Magazine ranked 2nd in the top ten barbecue in the nation? I can't think of much else in the way of restaurants that would show appreciation for dad than a treat at this fun and delicious place. Go I-55 South and take Exit 7 to the east. It's right between the Interstate and Airways Blvd. A slab of pork ribs is only $18.25 and they are incredible. They'll also feed two people. The barbecue salad will be a dad pleaser too.

Maybe your dad played in a band in his younger days, but work and responsibilities for the family made him let go of his love of music. What about giving him a little fantasy boost by taking him to the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum and then the Gibson Guitar Factory next door? He'll step back into memories with the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin, Elvis, and all the Memphis greats. Top it off with a meal at the Rendevous. It's all downtown, and you can devote an entire day to appreciation of dad.

How about getting something most special dads would die for? Bring home some real home-baked fried pies for dinner and dad will light up like Christmas tree! They have freshly made fruit pies at the High Point Grocery in High Point Terrace off Walnut Grove in a little strip mall just south of Summer Ave. The pies are mouth-watering and there are so many to choose from. I can't stand coconut cream but the blackberry are incredible! And Remember he "World Famous Pie Lady," Sarah Clayborne. She used to sell pies 15 years ago downtown on Madison, then disappeared. Well, she's resurfaced at the new downtown farmers market at the old train station open early Saturday morning. She's expanded her repertoire and people have more to choose from. She also has fried pies now, so take dad down there with you and let that good man pick his own delectable fried peach pie or whatever he wants. But make sure to get there early because there's a big chance she'll sell out. Your dad and husband will bless you for this!

Flippens Fried Pies are said to be the best in the world. It's a drive from Memphis but taking dad out for a Sunday drive in the country to feast on these would put a smile on his face! The restaurant only serves pies and it's just a little east of Tiptonville.

Go to Pickwick Lake for the weekend and treat your best dad to a meal of the best fried catfish in the area! Pickwick Catfish Farm is located 2 hours east of Memphis, and they even have cabins to rent if the family wants to make this a Father's Day Weekend! Head west out Poplar on Highway 57. Their hours are 5:00 P.M. ~ 8:30 P.M. on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday, noon till dark, depending on the crowds. But it Will be crowded. These catfish are to die for and it's a treat that will sure make any father happy.
