Special Open House on Saturday, September 25, 2010 for Veterans and Persons with Disabilities to Solve Their Tax Problems
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Reaches Out to Veterans and Taxpayers with Disabilities
The IRS is holding special nationwide open houses on this Saturday, September 25, 2010 to help these two groups.
One hundred of their offices throughout the nation will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.
Their intention is to have at least one office in every state open for this purpose.
Veterans and Persons with Disabilities are encouraged to attend these events to:
1. solve tax problems like payments, return preparation, audits
2. find out eligibility for installment agreements or offers-in-compromise, if unable to pay all at once
3. respond to IRS notices they may have received
4. help with filling out various forms and schedules
IRS staff will be available on hand for help. They can also be reached by telephone.
For these events IRS will be partnering with support organizations for veterans and the disabled like:
National Disability Institute,
Vets First,
Department of Veterans Affairs,
National Council on Independent Living, and
American Legion.
Those taxpayers requiring special services like interpretation for the deaf or hard of hearing, should check local listings for availability of such services. Ideally, they should inquire with the local IRS Office or Taxpayer Assistance Center in advance to schedule an appointment so that they are served better.
PLEASE NOTE: For definitive information on local events and timings, please contact the local IRS Office or Taxpayer Assistance Center.
