Special Valentine's Day Activities

Making Valentine's Day a Family Affair!

Sandy Steele
Recently I realized that Valentine's Day shouldn't just be about the love we have for our significant other. It should be geared towards everyone we love. Sure, we can tell someone we love them any old day of the year; but Valentine's Day has been set up in later centuries to be about telling that special someone in our life we love them. Why not include the children? This could include nieces and nephews as well as our own children.

I asked a group of friends lately if they had ideas on what they do as a family to celebrate Valentine's Day. These are some ideas:

1. Everyone gets a present next to their dinner plate and we have a special family dinner; like shrimp and crab! The present does not have to be anything expensive. Just something to let that person feel loved.

2. Bake a fun cake or do cookies and have everyone help decorate them. You could even go to Grandma's for games, cookies, and to give Valentine's to cousins; if she lives close enough. And don't forget homemade Valentine's with googly eyes!

3. The children and significant other get cards. Sometimes the children get flowers from Daddy. Again the flowers don't have to be expensive. Remember it's the thought that counts on this day!

4. Party with friends and have cookies, punch; the whole bit. Cookies seem to be very popular! We might just have to make them this year!

5. Make heart shaped chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast! This one might not go over well with boys! But it is always worth a shot; right?

It's a special occasion; the children deserve to feel the love too! Whatever you choose to do on Valentine's Day, make it special for all the special people in your life! Thanks to those ladies that helped contribute to this list.

Don't forget to tell that special person in your life Happy Valentine's Day. I know I won't forget!
