Speed Cleaning Tips and Tricks

In today's world, it seems like if you can't get something done quickly, you might not get it done at all. For many, cleaning is definitely one of those things. Between work, school, running a household and raising children, cleaning can be one of those "when I get to" issues for nearly anyone. Fortunately, learning to speed clean can change everything.

Make a Schedule

Setting up a weekly cleaning schedule can be extremely beneficial in speed cleaning. Though the time you choose may be different each week, the point is that each week, you have a designated period of time in which to clean. Knowing that you only have this single period of time in which to focus on cleaning can also help motivate you to get the job done right-and quickly.

Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies should be grouped together in one single place. Preferably, that place should be mobile. You should be able to grab your box or tote of cleaning supplies and take it with you room to room. This will make you more efficient and speed the cleaning process up, as you won't be running back and forth between rooms to find things.

Unfortunately, keeping things together can be difficult if you purchase different supplies for different jobs. Try to streamline your products, you'll save money and be more efficient at the same time. You can clean your entire house with fewer items such as a basic light-duty multi-surface cleaner and a heavy-duty degreasing cleanser.

Distractions

One big issue with cleaning is distractions. Minimizing distractions is important, so shutting off the television and the computer is important, especially if you have issues with focusing on cleaning and find yourself frequently distracted by your email or an old TV rerun.

Sometimes I find myself pausing to go through specific things like photographs or magazines I have laying out. Instead, make a list of these things you come across as your cleaning. Then, when you're done cleaning you can go back to this list and determine if it's really worth looking through or if you were just procrastinating.

Divide and Conquer

Cleaning can become overwhelming when you look at the home as a giant project rather than a group of small, individual projects. Divide the rooms or cleaning projects up to avoid overwhelming yourself. If necessary, divide the projects up into different days so you don't spend an entire time dreading the next cleaning project.

If this doesn't work for you, consider starting in the room you dread cleaning the most. Getting this room out of the way will make the rest of the rooms go quicker and seem like a piece of cake.

Music

For some people, music can be extremely motivating. Find faster paced music, as it will help you move quicker (much like restaurants use fast-paced music to pump more customers through the doors, you can use music to help you clean faster.)

Clean As You Go

Even though you may have a designated time for cleaning, it's important to always be cleaning as you go. This simply means that when you're done with a glass, put it in the sink. When you're done with your shower, put your clothes in the dirty hamper. Simple things like this can make the overall process cleaning quicker and smoother during your regularly scheduled cleaning time.
