Speed Skater Sven Kramer Going for Olympic Gold for Netherlands

Sven Kramer of the Netherlands captured the gold medal in the Men's 5000m in day one of the Vancouver Olympic Games. Kramer, age 23 is the heart and soul of the Netherlands. His all or nothing style of skating has matured after his disappointing 5000m silver medal in Turin. He came back and captured the World Allround , European and Dutch Champion in 2008. He may be skating with less all-in heart, but this slightly less passionate approach may be his ticket.

Sueng-Hoon Lee of South Korea raced a close second to Kramer garnering the silver medal in the 5000m. He skated a spectacular 6:16:95 only 2:35 off the leader Kramer. The Russian skater Ivan Skobrev achieved the bronze medal with a 6:18:05. It was a a race of endurance, style and perfection.

The entire Dutch delegation were on their feet and applauding their favorite son Sven Kramer. After the race with gold in his bag it was touching to see Kramer jump through the barrier and up the stand to embrace his family, friends and girlfriend gold medalist Naomi Van As. His dad, Yep Kramer is a former speed skater.

Swen Kramer is pressing on to achieve another gold in the upcoming 10,000m race. The pressure is on for the Dutch wunderkind and keeping a cool head and his new attitude may cinch it for him. The stands were glowing orange and there is little doubt Holland will be rocking out for their champion.
