The Speers Street Grill is a local hotspot for high school students going to Prom or Homecoming. Once you walk into the building you get a homey, welcoming feeling you don't get from Denny's or Eat and Park. You are seated right away and if it's a slow night you can choose upstairs or down. The lower part of the restaurant gives you a wonderful view of the river with nothing obstructing your view as some other places may. The décor has a Victorian feel to it, but not quite. There are images of the area in times long gone hanging on the walls so you can see what Belle Vernon, Charleroi and Speers looked like about twenty years or so ago. Not many restaurants are willing to display something like that. It's a place that makes you feel like they are proud of their history.
The food is delicious. There is a wide range of things they have to offer from seafood to salads and pastas. The service is fast; customers wait possibly three or four minutes before they get their food as opposed to the ten they may have to wait at other establishments. The prices are vary reasonable ranging from seven dollars to about ten for the higher quality foods. No matter how much you pay for your meal you get a rather nice quantity of food. Most people are unable to finish their meals and end up taking home a small doggie bag. The wait staff is more than kind and courteous. They are attentive, yet not intruding. As they talk about the specials and take your order, you get the feel that your waiter or waitress is happy with their job.
The Speers Street Grill is a wonderful place to go before a night out on the town or as a simple first date for anyone of any age. It gives you a quiet environment to talk and learn more about each other while wonderful food to enjoy. It's romantic enough to want to hold hands or give you that feel of wonderment during the first few months of a relationship. It's a wonderful restaurant with a wonderful staff. It's the people and the food that make the establishment and this one has food and staff like no other. If you are traveling on Interstate 70, and need to stop for food; make the Speers Street Grill your destination.
