Spell Casting: Why Didn't it Work?

Ever so often I receive an email from someone still wanting me to give them a spell to work that will miraculously fix all of their problems or will bring their desired person or object to them almost instantly. Usually I simply respond that if you really want to work magic you need to understand the workings of spell casting first and then it is best if you will write your own spells. Yes, you can purchase one of hundreds of already published books and follow the directions given, but I am going to guess that 8 out of 10 Times the results will be nowhere near where you want them to be.

Which brings me to the second type of emails and counseling requests I see from time to time; "I did everything exactly the way it was written in the book, why didn't it work?" The answer is twofold and actually quiet simple.

1. You didn't understand what you did and why you did it. Which means you couldn't focus your own will behind it. It is sort of like you starting out at a new job. You can follow the directions, but if something is not quiet in the right place you don't know where it went wrong and can't fix it because of it.

2. You followed along but you didn't belief in what you said or did. You need to have a strong belief in what you want to achieve.

Now let us imagine you understood what you did and that you wrote the spell yourself and still your outcome is not what you wanted or when you wanted it. Does that mean that magic is simply not real? Let me ask you if this makes anymore sense then a devoted Christian claiming that God isn't real just because he doesn't answer all your prayers. My point is that you have to have faith. Yes faith in your magic, in your spells and most importantly in the outcome.

With Magic you need to be precise in how you word things. It is wonderful to know what colored Robe you should be wearing (I personally never work with ritual robes, I can do magic just as easily in a T-Shirt and Underwear, in a regular dress or completely sky glad), what day of the week is best for what spell or what herbs will strengthen certain spells but the most important thing is that you are precise in your request. Magic is like a key to the treasures of the Universe, you need a specific key to open a specific door.

Remember to that if your Spell includes another Persons free will you can run into all sorts of problems, complications and backlashes. It is perfectly ok to want something to better you life ( a better paying job, a decent home, a way to be able to pay your bills on time), but making someone do something that is not in their own best interest is not a good idea ever. Please also realize that magic and the universe has a strange sense of humor and you don't always get everything you want the way you want it. Remember that until you are learning to control your own will and magic you are dealing with largely wild magic or chaotic magic. This is often very powerful, but like anything that is not controlled can do more damage then good.

Let us go to a simple example for a wish many of us may have:

"I ask you to bring to me a way to be able to pay my bills without going further into debt!" A good request, not too greedy, and not asking for anything that could affect anyone else either in any unduly way, so where could anything go wrong?

Well remember that Magic simply opens up Windows and Doors for you and shifts "reality" in a way that you can achieve what you need to achieve. You will still need to do some of the work. You can't just sit down on your couch make coffee and suddenly have money coming your way without doing anything first. Now if you have had that attitude in the past as well, you may find that the universe may just wish to teach you a little lesson at the same time. So if you can't pay your bills on your current budget, something may happen that will reduce your bills. Be careful what you ask for and how you ask for it. So how should you phrase this particular request then to make it a bit more foolproof? "Open up a way for me to earn and receive enough money to be able to meet my obligations and pay my bills without loosing what I have or hurting anyone else."

There you go, you thought it through.

You want a miracle in a hurry! May sound funny since magic should enable to do anything you wish, but just like flying on a Broom over the Moon (I don't know who many real time Witches have managed this feat, I am not one of them) some things are highly unlikely to happen. Be realistic in your casting. You won't be able to bring a dead person back from the dead and even you could you wouldn't want them back after they have died. You can't force someone to love you, it would be nothing more then an illusion and you wouldn't be much happier with that. Make certain you give the spell enough time to come full circle.

Some things take extra care. Expensive things are not required when casting a spell, most of the items are nothing more then beautiful window dressing unless of course you are using green witchery and are brewing healing "potions" or are making healing salves in that case you should follow the recipes carefully.

The last reason you won't like at all. Sometimes no matter how much you wish for something it is simply not meant for you to have it at that point. Take a really close look at what you have and who you are and check that if you don't already have it. Perhaps it just isn't exactly the way you wanted it. Remember we as humans are often romanticizing things or People; you can't make turn a Toad into a Prince.
