Spencer Pratt is the Most Hated Boyfriend Since K-Fed

If Kevin and Britney showed us "chaotic", Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag showed us "idiotic". Spencer and Heidi, who appear on MTV's The Hills, went through ups and downs in their relationship while still finding time to betray Heidi's roommate Lauren Conrad.

At first when Heidi starts dating Spencer, we talk to the television like she's in a horror movie and about to be killed. Don't do it, Heidi, we say. After awhile her behavior starts to mirror his and we don't feel sorry for her anymore. She's blowing off her best friend Lauren, being pulled to the dark side that is Spencer. In a staggering crescendo, she betrays Lauren by encouraging the spineless Jen to hook up with Lauren's crush. This move brought to you by Spencer Pratt, pulling the strings and flashing those teeth.

Let's talk for a moment about those teeth, which are clearly too large. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume they're veneers. A good cosmetic dentist will outfit the patient with teeth that look appropriate on the patient. Spencer probably throws his money around and makes a show of it, and he threw it at the wrong dentist. The end result is a feral grin that tells you nothing good will come of dealing with him.

When describing Spencer, people often use the word "tool" , or a word referring to a women's feminine hygiene product. This is a bit harsh perhaps, but we needed someone to replace K-Fed after Britney went looney and K-Fed started looking like the responsible one.

Spencer is manipulative. Lauren can tell he's not sincere, and he knows she knows, so his strategy is to drive a wedge between them. Once Heidi is alienated from her friends, she won't have to do any of that silly thinking that might tell her Spencer's not sincere.

He lies to Heidi constantly. She can sense it, and her eyes get as big as saucers as she tells him to be straight with her, to not screw her over. This cues the feral grin and reassurance that he won't hurt her. This is usually followed by a dig at Lauren.

At the end of the day, it's not that Spencer's any worse than a lot of people. We just need a villain, and he plays the part well. As he draws Heidi into his web, Lauren has been smart to detach herself from them. It will be interesting to see how this plays out when the next season of The Hills begins.
