Spend the Holiday Season in Orlando

James Kent
Orlando is a great place to visit anytime of the year. The city offers three major tourist attractions Walt Disney World Resort, SeaWorld and Universal Orlando Resort. Visiting Orlando over the Holiday Season is great because it's a lively place that loves to celebrate. In particular Disney likes to put on spectacular shows over Christmas and New Year. Looking for accommodation is unlikely to be a problem because the city boosts the second largest number of hotel rooms in the country. Orlando is also home to some beautiful resort hotels. There is plenty available for every taste in Orlando and going there over the Holiday Season is a sure fire way of having a great time.

One cautionary note is that Orlando carries a considerable hurricane risk. The hurricane season typically runs from early September to early November and hurricane don't usually occur outside these time frames, but it's possible. Also the risk of a dangerous hurricane is relatively rare because they are more likely to hit areas in South Florida's urban corridor first and lose strength and speed before hitting Orlando. It's simply something to be aware of. Other than that Orlando enjoys year round sunshine. The average temperature for November is 77F, December 73F and January 72F. The winter season is the dry season in Orlando and lower average temperatures. The average low temperatures during winter are 50F and it's rare for temperatures to go below freezing. There has been no significant snow recorded in Orlando since records began 1948.

Away from the top tourist attractions Orlando has three top music venues which feature live music throughout the year these are Hard Rock Live, House of Blues and The Social. It's worth noting that downtown Orlando also has its fair share of clubs, bars and concert halls that feature live music. It's these three medium sized venues that remain popular throughout the year.

Hard Rock Live is located at Universal Studios CityWalk and is a 3,000 seat arena, which maintains an eclectic schedule of acts. Typically the audience is a mixture of residents and theme park trippers. During the Holiday Season there are two great acts available at Hard Rock Live these are NBC's Last Comic Standing Live Tour and Classic Albums featuring Led Zeppelin. Last Comic Standing is available on December 27, 2008 and Classic Albums is on November 22, 2008.

The House of Blues is another great venue and is located next to Cirque du Soleil at Downtown Disney Westside. This is a standing only, general admission venue and books some of the best touring acts from around the world. There are no acts that go over Thanksgiving or Christmas, but there is an act for November 11th this is The Black Crowes.

The third venue is The Social and is located in Downtown Orlando and is currently the oldest standing independent music venue. Typically acts that perform here range from established indie outfits and underground DJ's to musicians who are soon to be household names. If none if this appeals I have some other events occurring over the Holiday Season. Sacrifice and Prosperity: Central Florida War has been running since November 14, 2006 and will continue until January 1, 2010 and can be seen at The Orange County Regional History Center. In focus: National Geographic Greatest Portraits is also at The Orange County Regional History Center and will be available from November 21, 2008 to January, 2009. Super Series 4 - Home for the Holidays is available on November 29, 2008 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. On November 30, 2008 Handel's Messiah is available also at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center. Finally on December 8, 2008 Focus 2: Mendelssohn is performing at the Margeson Theater, Lowndes Shakespeare Center.

The theme parks bring in millions people throught the year, but there is also beautiful hotels and lively bars, so really offers something for everyone. My event guide should ensure everyone who visits Orlando this Holiday Season can have a really great time whatever they end up doing.
