Spend Time with Polar Bears in Their Own Environment

Experience the Adventure of a Lifetime in Canada

Karen Reams
If you are a polar bear lover then jump on a tundra buggy and go and see the polar bears of Northern Manitoba in Churchill, Canada. Churchill, a small northern seaport in Manitoba, is on the western shore of the Hudson Bay and cannot be reached by road.

The best times to take this trip are during the months of October and November as this is when the bears are slowly assembling along the coast in anticipation of the winter freeze of the Hudson bay. Once the bay has frozen the bears can move on to the ice and hunt the ringed seal, their favorite food.

Whatever your goals or level of experience are there is a tundra buggy tour just waiting for you.

Here is glance of what tours are available

To be honest there is only one way to really experience the polar bears and that is to stay at The Tundra Buggy Lodge but you can choose to stay in any of the hotels in Churchill. A visit to Cape Churchill will provide wonderful and exciting polar bear experiences and you will be able to get the most amazing photographs of these wonderful creatures.

I mentioned previously that the best way to experience the polar bears is to stay at The Tundra Buggy Lodge and I shall now give my reasons. The Tundra Buggy Lodge is a mobile lodge and is taken out and put together in the best location for round the clock bear watching. From the moment you awaken you are in the bears environment. What could be better? And if you are truly lucky you may even get to see the polar bears emerging from the blanket of snow that has settled on them over night.

The Tundra Buggy Lodge is almost 100 meters long and has two sleeping cars (which sleep up to 38 guests), a lounge car, dining car and utility car. There are open decks between the cars where you can watch the polar bears and if the weather permits see the Northern Lights (it just gets better and better).

There are 3 main tours that you can choose, the adventure, the enthusiast and the specialist.

The Adventure Tour provides a world- class experience with an expert guide on the Buggy excursions. On an adventure tour you will experience adventurous nights at the Tundra Buggy lodge and this offers the most economical program.

The Enthusiast Tour is also led by an experienced guide and you will stay at the Tundra buggy lodge and a hotel in Churchill. You will get to visit local attractions in Churchill and have fun on an authentic dogsled ride.

The Specialist Tour is led by either an experienced naturalist or a professional photographer. With these tours you will be in a small group of 18 riding on a Buggy built for 40.
