Spending Valentine's Day Alone: Make it a Good Night

Christie Silvers
When February rolls around everyone's thoughts turn to love. Or more likely, what will you do on Valentine's Day. It's lovely and exciting when plans are made for an enjoyable night with your lover, but what if you will be spending Valentine's Day alone? Here are a few tips on making it a good night if you're stuck without a valentine.

Cooking for One: You don't have to share a meal with someone else to enjoy the food on your plate. When it's just you don't have to worry about someone else not liking what you've made or being unappreciative of all your hard work. But that doesn't mean you should curl up with a pint of ice cream to wallow in self-pity. No way, no how! Get yourself together and make yourself a special meal. Make something you love, but wouldn't normally cook for yourself.

See a Box Office Hit: While you're enjoying the dinner for one you so lovingly made, pop in a dvd of the most recent box office hit release and have a good laugh (or cry). Rent a movie you've been wanting to see, but never made it to the theater for. Or watch an old classic that's been stuck in your heart for years. If you want to go out, hit the theaters. Yes, you'll be sitting there alone, but then again there will be no one whispering questions, mumbling about how they hate the movie, or stealing the last kernals of your buttery popcorn. And let's not forget about the annoying straw slurping of the last remnants of cola in the bottom of their cup.

Go Shopping: So you don't have anyone to buy satin undies, flowers, or chocolates for this year. That doesn't mean you can't go shopping--buy yourself something special! You can go as cheap or as extravagant as you'd like when you're shopping for yourself. No worries that someone else will buy lingerie that doesn't fit right, flowers that make you sneeze, or chocolates that you're allergic to.

Have an Un-Valentine's Day Party: If you've decided that you just don't want to spend Valentine's Day alone, why not get a group of your single friends together and have an Un-Valentine's Day party? Laugh, eat, drink, be merry! Be thankful for your friends and have a good time doing so.

Valentine's Day is made for love, and that includes the loving of yourself. Treat yourself to something fun, yummy, enjoyable. There's no need to worry about someone taking the good chocolates and leaving only the cream-filled ones behind when it's only you enjoying them. Be determined to enjoy the day, and you will.
