Spice Girls Reunion in the Works?

MisterSteve
The possibility of a Spice Girl's reunion is the subject of the day. Will they or won't they? Photos of the Spice Girls reveal them to still be in pretty good shape, surely able to support a new album and tour. With all the reunions that have taken place in the last few years, it is not hard to believe that reuniting would be an extremely profitable move for the now defunct Spice Girls.

Although it is certainly a sound move financially, there is some question of clashing personalities, the age old malady in most performing groups. Although they seem at this point to be in good spirits, it isn't hard to imagine the stress of recording and touring beginning to wear on even the most seasoned of performers.

Another potential fly in the ointment is Scary Spice's recent announcement of her pregnancy. Naming Eddie Murphy as the father, any touring would certainly have to take place after the delivery, possibly much later, even. The idea of a pregnant Scary Spice jiggling to the beat can't be a big ticket seller.

The other real question is how long would such a reunion last? Are they producing one album and going home, or are they intending to stick together and make a career out of their former gigs as the pop symbol of girl power? Any chance of success would surely lead to another album, as the Spice Girls very likely understand how much profit potential was squandered on their first go round. This time it would seem prudent to plan a more timeless career.

The first step to making a serious reunion comeback would likely be an all new album, probably with a new style and sound. The original Spice Girls songs would seem quite dated to today's audiences and very likely would have to be updated or remixed to match current trends in music. The Spice Girls' original market has grown up into adults, and the new market would have to be drawn from a new generation of young girls, ready to dance to the happy pop beat of the Spice Girls.

If the Spice Girls did manage to produce a hit album, it would lend a lot of impetus to the concept of pop bands making comebacks on reunion tours, formerly the exclusive privilege of rock and country acts. And it would reinvigorate young tweens from coast to coast. No doubt they await only a new infusion of girl power.
