Spice Up Your House for Less

It's almost that time of year again. The family functions, neighborhood cookouts and the swarm of people that just stop in to say hello. Thinking of remodeling your kitchen? Worried about the finances? Well, don't be. For under $1,000, we can make your kitchen look like a picture from a magazine. Don't doubt my ideas until you've tried them!

For starters, choose an inviting color to paint your walls. Maybe a pale yellow and depending on the size of your kitchen you may need more or less of the suggested amount of paint. We'll estimate that you will need 2 gallons. This should cost you approximately $50. Once you have painted your walls, let's take a peek at your window coverings.

First of all, Venetian blinds have to go! Let's think about some different inviting yet original treatments. I'm going to assume you have one window over the sink looking into your backyard. You will want to have something that looks great on the inside but also be appealing on the outside as well. A balloon valance is often the safest way to go. It adds a unique style and just enough charisma to your space. If you want a little more privacy instead of those outdated blinds, use a sheer panel curtain. This should cost you total about $85-$100.

Still think that your kitchen still needs a little something? How about a simple pastel painting? Liven up your kitchen area with some of your own personal touches. Bring out some of your trinkets that you have stored in the attic. This part if you chose to do it will not cost you anything. But if you opt not to do this, you can always go shopping. When you are looking for the perfect items to add contrast to your kitchen be sure it is not going to over power your kitchen. Your new purchases should not cost you more than $75. One more thing, but what is it?

Ah, a new kitchen table and chair set. Now this is the most important item you will be adding to your new and inviting kitchen. Price should not be the main thing you look at when you go to get the new set. Keep in mind the needs for your table; be sure to get something that will be functional as well as stylish. You will want this to complete your room and accent it. This is usually the focal point in a kitchen. Once you have your table, your room is almost complete, all you need now is a basket of fresh fruit or a beautiful vase with fresh cut flowers. Assuming you spent about $600 on your table and chairs the total you spent will be about $825 for a brand new look!
