Spice Up Your Look with a Short Hairstyle

Laura Leiva

Since many hair tutorials and styles are geared to those with medium to long hair, women with short hair may begin to feel bored with the same style and limited options. However, those with short hair have plenty of options when it comes to trying new ideas or styling to prevent boredom with a look. If you are trying to grow out a shorter style, the use of accessories or styling tools can keep your hairstyle chic as it goes through various awkward stages of growth while you move onto a different style.

Pixie

If you have strong facial features, show them off with a short pixie cut. This classic look complements many facial shapes, and works best with women of all hair types. When you visit your stylist, ask for layers to soften your facial features and bangs to frame the face. Pixie haircuts can be as long or as short as you dare, so get some style inspiration from Rihanna if you want an edgy look, Michelle Williams for a classic pixie style and Halle Berry for a sleek, feminine pixie.

Bob

When you want short hair, but do not feel adventurous to go for a pixie, a classic bob is sleek and stylish for many hair types and facial shapes. If you have thinner hair, do not avoid a bob hairstyle! A blunt cut gives fine hair some added volume and shape, a la Carey Mulligan. For those with thick or wavy hair, a bob haircut should incorporate layers and bangs to keep the look from appearing too boxy or heavy. For an edgy-styled bob, ask your stylist to incorporate razored layers throughout the style to give it body and movement.

Asymmetrical

Keep some length in shorter styles with an asymmetrical cut. These types of hairstyles keep the length of your hair around your chin, or as short as you want. One side of the hair is longer than the other is, and usually involves side-swept bangs or wispy layers. An asymmetrical-style cut is perfect for those who want a more fashion-forward cut and complements various facial shapes. If you want this type of look, it works best with naturally straight hair or hair that is flat-ironed and smoothed. Check out pictures of Kimberly Caldwell or Victoria Beckham for hairstyle inspiration.

As you can see, short hair does not have to look boring or be one-dimensional. Short hair gives many hairstyles body and style, especially when used with hair accessories like headbands or barrettes.
