Spice Your Up Meals with Vinegar: 5 Tips

Using Vinegar in Food Recipes

Christi Bowers
Vinegar can be used in many different ways to spice up a meal. Vinegar has that tangy flavor that can add the zest and zing you need to bring a dish to life. There are many foods that go well with vinegar, such as salads, potatoes, meats, and vegetables. Vinegar goes well with most sweet tastes, giving a direct contrast to the sugary flavor. Vinegar goes well with salty foods, bringing out the flavor. Here are five ways to use vinegar to spice up a meal.

1. Use vinegar as part of a salad dressing. This is one method of using vinegar to spice up a meal. You can use almost anything and mix it with vinegar to make a salad dressing. Vinegar could be used with oil to make a vinegar and oil dressing. Vinegar could be added to spices. The great thing about vinegar is that there are different kinds and flavors of vinegar to use for salad dressings. There is red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, and just plain vinegar.

A great salad dressing can be made with vinegar. Start with some apple cider vinegar and add some raw sugar to taste. Then, use mix in some pulp from a fresh orange. Add some lemon and lime juice from a freshly squeezed lemon and lime. Add a small touch of salt. This will give you a citrus apple flavored salad dressing. If you want, you can add some vegetable oil to make the dressing a bit thicker, but this is not necessary.

2. Use vinegar to season french fries. You'll want to use regular vinegar for this. Cook your french fries the way you normally would in a frier. Then, once they are finished, you can pour the vinegar lightly over the fries. You'll often find french fries served this way at the beach on the boardwalk. If you want to mix it up a bit, try deep frying other vegetables like broccoli and asparagus. Then, season them with the vinegar as well. You don't just have to use french fries.

3. Use vinegar to flavor uncooked vegetables. If you want to add some life to your basic vegetables, vinegar can do this for you. Try balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar. You can use this as a dipping sauce for your fresh vegetables. Broccoli tastes great with some balsamic vinegar. If you don't like the intense flavor, add some sugar and a touch of water to dilute the flavor.

4. Use vinegar to season meats. You can soak the meats in vinegar to give them a zesty flavor. Try soaking your chicken in a balsamic vinegar for a few minutes before cooking. Once the chicken is seasoned, you can then place the chicken in foil and barbecue it on the grill.

5. Use vinegar in barbecue sauce or any other sauce that you will put on meat. You can take regular store bought barbecue sauce and add some regular vinegar. This will kick up the flavor of the barbecue sauce and set it apart from the normal taste everyone is expecting. Once the meat has cooked, you can take the vinegar barbecue sauce and coat the top of the piece of chicken. This will be delicious! If you prefer, you could instead add vinegar to honey mustard sauce or even to a teriyaki glaze.
