Spice Up Your Stairway with Pictures

In a stairway, there is often a landing area, which is a section of flooring that allows the stairs to separate and go in two different directions within a space. The landing is usually in a corner of the stairwell and the respective wall can be an ideal location to show off family pictures or other photographs. A collage of picture frames enhances the space while giving it a personal touch. Depending on your decorating style, you can use frames that are traditional or contemporary to tie room and landing decor together.

Decide what types of pictures you want to hang up on the landing wall. You can use family photos, landscape or destination photos to give the landing wall a person touch. Group the photos together so you can see what you're working with before you begin to hang them. To create a visually stimulating collage, an odd number of pictures is preferred over an even number, according to Home Decorating Made Easy.

Choose frames to go with the photos. For a contemporary look, choose sleek, monochromatic frames, or decorated frames for a traditional look. If you want to spice up the space, choose all different types of frames for an eclectic feel.

Trace the outline of the frames onto large sheets of paper or newspaper to create templates. Tape the templates onto the wall to get an idea of the collage you are creating. The templates allow you to easily see the future placement of the frames without damaging the walls with nails. Step back to observe the placement of the templates and move as desired.

Place lighter-colored photos toward the top of the collage and the darker ones toward the bottom. This will draw the eye to the bottom of the collage and direct it upward. Hang the picture frames on nails in the same locations the templates were to complete the project. Remove the template from the wall once you hang the photo.
