It is true that having friends over for dinner will give the opportunity for people to catch up. Will it be the memorable event that you were hoping for though? It is not very likely as many people gather together for dinners on a fairly regular basis.

Once the party starts it will pretty much run itself, which gives you as the host the opportunity to spend some time enjoying yourself as well. The setting that you have created will have your guests with lots to talk about. Having done this will give the partiers lots to talk about and relieve you of worrying about them becoming bored. This will result in the memorable gathering that you wanted for both you and the guests that are present.
