Spicing Up Your Kitchen for the Holidays on a Budget

Dawn Krakowski
Whether your kitchen is new, old, small, big, full, or empty, there are still ways to spice it up and make it holiday friendly. These kitchen decorations are very simple and cheap, and don't require you to search every store trying to find matching items or something that is "just the right size." Here are some simple and budget friendly ways to decorate your kitchen for Christmas.

Do you have flour, sugar, tea bags, coffee, or anything similar in your kitchen? Why not incorporate ingredient storage into your decorating? Many places sell various sized, priced, and styles of tins or containers. You can use these Christmas tins or containers to store various items and add that holiday feel to you counters or cabinets. You can either choose to use containers that are equivalent in size or get three or four sizes to indicate different items within the containers. Not only does it give more of a holiday feel, it also helps de-clutter space within your kitchen.

The tops of your cabinets may not have seen attention for quite some time, but that will change! It's time to brush away the cobwebs and dust and give your cabinets a holiday pick up! For only five to ten dollars you can buy Christmas garlands with green leaves and either berries or pinecones to put along the tops of your cabinets. These simple decorations add a nice touch to your almost forgotten space. Even if you already have some kind of decoration on top, changing it up for the holidays might just be what your kitchen needs!

Even if your kitchen is small or big, it's always nice to have an attractive focal point, especially if you'll have family or friends coming over. And your focal point doesn't have to be expensive or difficult. To start, simply use some kind of glass container, whether it is a tall, thin vase, a square, a circle, glass in the shape of a fishbowl or even a large sized martini glass, to fit your personality and style. For only about five to ten dollars you can purchase scented Christmas pinecones, glittery Christmas decorations, fake Christmas flowers or anything else along those lines to put inside of your glass container. This beautiful piece can be put in the center of a kitchen island, on top of the fridge, or even in the middle of your kitchen table. It creates a focal point that is both cheap and visually pleasing.

You can find all of the above items at locations such as Michaels craft store, Wal-Mart, Walgreen's, Rite-Aid, and other such places. These ideas are perfect for anyone who has a kitchen, and you can always modify or change the ideas or items to fit your style and fit your pre-existing kitchen decorations.
