Spicy Pepper Cookies

A Tradition in Our Family

Makes about 50
Preheat oven to 350 F.

Ingredients

1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch or tapioca starch (from Wholefoods)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon finely grated lemon rind
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup finely ground almonds
2 tablespoons confectioner's sugar

Sift together Cornstarch, baking powder, spices, salt and pepper into a bowl.
Set aside.

Use an electric mixer to combine - butter/margarine ad brown sugar.
Beat in the vanilla extract and grated lemon rind

On low speed, add the flour mixture with the whipping cream and stir in ground almonds

shape the dough into 1/4 inch balls.
Place them on ungreased baking sheets 1 inch apart

Bake for 15-20 minutes depending on your oven

Allow the cookies to cool completely on baking sheets

Sprinkle lightly with confectioners' sugar or powdered sugar.
