As of today, June 7th, Spider-Man 3 is sitting on the 14th spot on the list of movies that have made the most money Worldwide. There is only a short separation between where it is now, and a spot in the Top 10 of all time.
To this point, Spider-Man 3 has made over $845.5 million around the World in ticket sales. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) currently holds the #10 spot with $866.3 million in sales. That is a difference of a little under $21 million.
Like the other movies about the web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man 3 is expected to stay in major theater rotation for at least one more month. This will put it through the Fourth of July weekend. To reach the goal of being in the Top 10, Spider-Man 3 would only have to make another $4.15 million a week. This should not be hard for this blockbuster.
Spider-Man 3 is currently sitting at the #17 spot on the All-Time US Box Office List. There is only about $5 million that is keeping it off of the Top 10 List. The #10 spot is held by, strangely enough, Spider-Man 2.
This has been a fairly good year for Hollywood on the All-Time Worldwide List. Wild Hogs (235), Shrek the Third (176), 300 (66), and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (29) are all making strong showings on the list. There is also a lot of anticipation since there are so many more big movies that are planned for release this year.
There are many Hollywood analysts that are pointing to the possibility that with the new Harry Potter movie, Transformers, the new Die Hard movie, The Simpsons, Ocean's 13, and the new Fantastic Four movie still to be released, this could be the most profitable year ever for Hollywood. At least, this should be the year that a new record will be made for the most movies on the Top Worldwide List.
Whatever happens over the next month with Spider-Man 3, one thing will still remain, that it will be remembered for a long time. I am not sure if it will be remembered longer for the quality of the movie, or the money that it made.
