Spider Man and U2 Are Coming to Broadway
Work on the Spider Man musical is already well on the way. Julie Taymor will direct the sure to be Broadway hit. Taymor has already made a name for herself on Broadway. She is credited for bringing the ever-popular Lion King to the stages of Broadway. In 1998 Taymor was awarded two Tonys for her outstanding work on the Disney Lion King musical.
Besides already having a director in place, auditions for the Broadway version of Spider Man are also underway. There are no clues yet as to who will take the roles of the main characters, Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker but the news will be highly anticipated. There is yet to be an opening date released either. Parents and children are sure to be eagerly waiting for the announcement containing performance dates.
The announcement for the Spider Man Broadway musical came yesterday from the owner of the classic comics, Marvel Entertainment. U2 front man, Bono and U2 guitarist, the Edge will be writing the lyrics and music for the Spider Man musical according to Marvel Entertainment.
In the announcement the head of Marvel Studios, David Maisel said, "Marvel continues to look to every entertainment medium to support the enduring popularity of our superheroes, and we are thrilled with the talent on board."
Spider Man is the first time a Marvel Comics hero will make a appearance on stage but it is not the first time a comic book super hero has done it. Many years ago, in 1966, a Super Man musical was produced on Broadway. The show got positive remarks from critics but the public did not have the same reaction and the show quickly fizzled out. With the current popularity of Spider Man on the big screen, the Broadway musical is sure to attract a few ticket sales.
Spider Man is also set to appear in another form. Marvel Comics are currently constructing a billion dollar theme park in the country of Dubai. The theme park is currently expected some time in 2011. The comic book hero is also about to appear in a video game that's release is timed with the release of the Spider Man 3 movie.
Spider Man the Broadway musical will be the first time Bono or the Edge has created music and lyrics for the stage.
The latest film, Spider Man 3 will hit theatres in a few weeks.
