Spider Web and Pumpkin Patch Cup Cakes

Jayden Nightshade
Everyone that has children are concerned for their health when it comes to all the candy and safety while trick-or-treating. More and more people are having Halloween parties at their homes, and inviting family and neighbors.

Here are some very simple directions to make two spider cup cakes. They are easy to share, require no cutting before serving, keeping germs down.

Spider and Web Cup Cakes

When you are done making your cup cakes, you will need

either brown colored icing or chocolate flavored icing

Black icing

White icing

Icing bags

Writing tips

Vine tips

Hair or grass tip

small flower tip

If you are going to make individual spiders, you will need paper plates.

For individual spiders, make a spider web on each plate by drawing 8 lines out from the center to the edge of the plate in equal intervals using the black icing with a vine tip. Then connect the lines by swooping from one line to the other, doing about 4 times around. Remove the cup cake wrapper and place cup cake in the center of the plate. Ice the sides of the bottom part of the cup cake, then using the hair or grass tip, finish the top and the fuller part of the cup cake, making the spider look like he has hair. Then use white icing in either a vine tip or writing tip, give the spider white eyes about the size of a pencil, then place a drop of black icing in the center of each eye with the writing tip. Also place a mouth on the spider in black below the eyes. When finished with this, using brown icing with the small flower tip, start midway down the spiders side, you will make 8 legs, coming down the side and a short ways out from the bottom on the cardboard or plate.

Do this with each individual spider.

To make spiders on one big sheet, cut the size you need for the base from cardboard, leaving lots of space around the edges to make the spider web. You may need to use more than one layer of cardboard and tape them together. Cover this with paper or foil. You will make the web much bigger. On a larger scale like this, you may want to make two webs on the cardboard. Decorate each cupcake individually and pick them up with a spatula or a turner. This way you wont smudge the decorations. Place the spiders on the cardboard leaving space between each one.

These are a great hit for the kids and adults also.

Alterations

Pumpkin Patch Cup Cakes

Orange icing

Green icing

Yellow icing

Candy corn

You can do much the same by using vines on the plates with a couple of leaves, or decorate a large cardboard for a pumpkin patch.

Decorate the cupcakes in much the same way, using the orange icing. You will use the large round tip and start at the bottom of the cupcake and place strips of orange icing going up to the top of the cupcake, filling in as you go. In the center of the top section of the cupcake, using green icing, create a small stem. Using yellow icing or candy corn, make the eyes nose and mouth on the lower part of the top of the pumpkin.

You can do many things like this for Halloween, and these cup cakes are a great hit among everyone!
