Spiderman 3 Movie Review

Kai Keindel
The third installment of the Spiderman films has hit theatres and the sound it will make is sure to be a groan of distaste. For those that consider themselves Spiderman fans, this movie will leave a disappointed feeling in the pit of your stomach. Although they claim this movie would be the best yet, it failed to deliver the excitement that was felt with the other two movies.
Now some may think it unfair to judge a film by its predecessors but in the case a film adapted from a comic book you can't ignore what came before. The first two had their own distinct charm about them that became much more apparent after seeing movie number three. One and two contained a single bad guy as the main obstacle that arises for your friendly neighborhood Spiderman to defeat. However, the third faces our hero against three villains. The problem with throwing too much at a film is that things become too drawn out and complicated. The single villain element left room for each character to be explained and no questions are asked about what is happening in the film. So although the villains are evil, the audience knows why they are driven to the things they do. The characters in the third film are thrown together far too quickly and the action gets constantly drown out by the continuous love problems in Parker's life.
In the matters of love and life this film should really get things straight as to which they are trying to display. There is too little focus on anything key to make out a message. There is of course the underlining good guys beat up the bad guys that everyone loves about their comic heroes. Watching this film felt like a group of soap opera writers spent a right staying up later playing video games and drinking soda pop to create this script. First there is action and then opera, action, then opera, opera while action is happening in the background. The battles move at a lightning pace and then everything slows to an unbearable crawl.
One of the personal problems I had with this film was the fact they did so badly with the Venom character. Now as for Topher Grace I have nothing against him. However, if you want to portray Venom then the director should have set his sights on some one a little burlier. Venom is a monster, made to reflect all the darkness within Peter Parker that he rejected and cast off. As a result, while he may have the powers similar to Spiderman, Venom has always been a towering pillar of death, not a sleek agile Spiderman replica. Topher gets points for having the right kind of attitude, but the director loses several points for losing sight of the beloved image of a favorite super villain.
While they may be trying to recreate the image of Spiderman for a real life film, the writers forgot there already are images in place and certain things are expected. Readers became involved with the character of the comics, developed a feeling for them, and it caused them to keep reading. If Stan Lee did to his comic book storylines what the writers of Spiderman 3 have done then I wouldn't be writing this review today. Perhaps this film was far too influenced by the success of the first two and the writers felt pressured to cram as much as they possibly could within this film because, as we all know, three is the lucky number. Unfortunately, if writers keep turning out garbage like this then perhaps that lucky number will have to change.

I think you were being a little harsh on the movie. It was actually pretty good for putting three villains in it. Altough you have good reasons that it was bad, I still think the movie was awseome.
