Spider-Man on Alert, Catches Thief in Act as Jedi Knights Assist
Spider-Man and Jedi Knights "Take Him"
According to Michael, Adelaid Comics Center, his comic book store, was celebrating an international "Free Comic Book Day" on Saturday when the thief entered the store. Michael, dressed as Marvel's Spider-Man was prancing around the store throwing imaginary spider webs at customers, and he just happened to have some customers there who were dressed as Jedi Knights and other comic book heros.
But Michael saw a comic book thief attempting to take a $150 X-Men Omnibus comic that wasn't on the freebie list, so he decided to nab him, all Spider-Man like. The only problem was Michael is a little scrawny guy and the culprit is anything but. So Michael needed back up. That's where the Jedi Knights would come in, securing the scene at the door in case Mr. Bad Guy attempted to flee the scene after being confronted by Spider-Man.
Spider-Man Nabs Thief: Comic Book Saved
"My spider sense was tingling. I didn't want to scare him off so I followed him around the store and eventually said, 'Are you right there, Mate?'" The thief was caught off guard long enough for little Michael to pull a Spider-Man, acting all tough and everything. "I'm a tiny bloke, but I just grabbed his bag and looked in it and there was the book."
With 50 people in his store, Michael knew he needed to make sure the guy didn't make a run for it through the crowd, so he called out to two Jedi Knigts to guard the front door. The did; light sabers and all. Marvel character Flash, Michael's business partner, was also present and calmly went about ringing up the cash register in spite of the action.
Police Nab Thief, Refrain from Laughing
Police arrived on the scene, dressed as actual cops and toting real weapons, but they maintained decorum during the Spider-Man, Jedi Knight nabbing, never busting a laugh as they hauled Mr. Bad Guy away in their own super hero mobile. Video footage of the actual nabbing, courtesy of the security camera in Michael's store, can be viewed at "Spider-Man Catches Real Thief." Try not to laugh.
